It's a shame WWE didn't move to a cheaper venue - like somewhere in Texas or another wrestling hotbed (Chicago etc) and set up shop there.

I always thought citywalk in Universal Orlando would be perfect for a WWE restaurant/Hall of fame. I know TNA have ties there but it would be a great spot with a good in built audience

Universal couldn't do that. Afaik, they can only do TNA stuff, not WWE unless they end the deal with TNA first. Don't see why they would, it's only one building and Universal is massive to begin with, not short on space anyway, so they don't have any reason to end the TNA deal (unless WWE offer them a ****load of money, which isn't likely).

Has Kane always been played by the same guy?

Yep. Undertaker and I think a few others have dressed up as him for segments etc, but it's always been the same guy otherwise. Even though when he debuted he was burned and couldnt talk without a voice box :pac:

The main character yes. But there was a second Kane for an abortive Kane vs Kane feud.

Notice the bad wig and the ring attire that actually ripped at the seams. The fake masked Kane was Luke Gallows/Uncle Festus in WWE.

its always been glen jacobs playing the main character yes, glen had previous stints in wwf as isaac yankem (jerry lawlers personal dentist) and fake diesel, they were good gimmicks compared to the one he had in uswa where he was a human christmas tree

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

FWIW the rumour that Kane was played by someone other than Jacobs was that coming towards 2000, when he changed his attire to a singlet top, he lost weight and got ripped, tanned himself. but it was always the same bloke.

I also saw people trying to claim it wasn't him when he returned with the mask a few months back. People saying "No, look at the eyes, they aren't the same" :P

Which is silly when you think that he always wore contacts.

Undertaker and Ultimate Warrior are the other two people ask whether there was 2 or 3 of.

Dont blame people when it comes to the Warrior given how different he looked when he returned after 8 months at WM8:

As WWF had a steroid crackdown in the meantime.

Lol it could've been kerry von erich. It was weird seeing Hogan at (eg) Mania 9 or WCW as he'd lost SO much weight during the steroid scandal and kept it off. His face and body were definitely a different shape.

Been watching a good bit of WCW Thunder lately. Theres a channel I follow on youtube and yer man is uploading all the shows from 2000.

Were there any stand out matches or segments on it at all that ye could recommend? I've seen nearly everything people would recommend for every show apart from Thunder. Just never seemed to pop up...but theres probably a good reason for that....

Any suggestions for standout moments/matches, whether they be good or awfully bad?

Think Malenko and Benoit had a good tag-team cage match on Thunder.

Bit of a random question. What's the significance of the small circle Punk draws on the palm of his hand(s)? I've noticed it a few times, including this week on smackdown. Does it tie in with the straight edge X or is it something different?

I'm looking to get into some of the more indy stuff and am wondering where should I start with Chikara, PWG and Evolve. Are there any stand out shows from these that would be worth checking out?

I've seen a limited amount of all 3, I have the Chikara Best Of DVD as well as the PWG boxset they released a few years ago. With Evolve I've only seen a handful of matches but no full events. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,089 ✭✭✭✭rovert

EVOLVE is more of a dream match type promotion that is focused on one or two big matches & then filler for the rest of the card. Wouldnt bother really.

PWG has been on a roll for donkeys. DDT 2011 (a STACKED tag tournament) is one of greatest indy shows ever. PWG Steen Wolf & PWG FEAR are probably two of best back to back shows around.

CHIKARA does have supercards but it is largely based on Seasons like a TV show so you have to start from the January shows and go from there. This 2012 Season hasn't been doing it for me. Last Season/year they did a tournament crowning their first champion: Chikara's 12 Large Summit which is fairly self contained and easy to follow with a lot of great matches especially in the final stages.

Edit: For CHIKARA if you want to splurge get all three nights/DVDs of the 2011 King of Trios. It has everything amazing matches, comedy and human interest stories. Alot of thought went into those shows.

Just seeing Goldbergs match on vintage collection made me think of his undefeated streak. How much of them wins were paded out or can anyone name all his wins in the streak?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,920 ✭✭✭TechnoFreek

Does TNA have a drugs policy or wellness program like the WWE?

Kurt Angle looks pretty juiced at the moment.

(I appreciate that although WWE has the wellness program, one could question its effectiveness)

IMO i think it represents stigmata (i.e. like Christ) as he started doing it when he was the (cult) leader of the Straight Edge Society. I think it's fúcking awesome!

About 30 matches were simply made up and added. They never actually happened.

    I don't think so for 2 reasons.

    1. I was watching it pretty recently and i think one of them actually got injured from the fall - or at least JR or King implied that they did on commentary

    2. In Foley's book, he said he wasn't sure if the spot was going to happen until it happened. He said he asked Taker to do it before the match and Taker basically thought it was too dangerous and told Foley that he'd think about doing the spot.

Remember when William Regal was the powerful GM character back in 2008 (I think) and was calling a halt to matches and turning out lights at the arena etc?

Well I've heard that was possibly leading to a WWE Title feud/reign. Is there much truth to this does anyone know? It was a killer gimmick at the time and the guy played it to a tee. Would it have worked? He was fresh enough off a KOTR victory also I believe. What feuds could he have had? How would you have booked it?
