Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Went to purchase a battery strap for pre 00 Smiley Transit to pass DOE and was told that this part was no longer available. The guy in stores said other parts that are less frequently in demand will also be discontinued. I ended up having to trawl the scrapyards.

How long is it normally for a manufacturer to be obliged to hold spares for a particular model?

There are still heaps of these vans about on the road and many will outlive the later models.

try ringing cross border? I know my father found the ford dealership in Enniskillen to be great. If they don't have it they'll order it for you.

He bought a new turbo last year and something happened to it a year later. It was out of warrenty by 2 weeks but they still replaced it for him for free with a another year guarentee.

Well, I got a load of parts for my '82 Escort Mk3 in Airton Ford in Tallaght about a week ago (gaskets, filters, etc.)

I was surprised they had parts for a car that old!

What engine is in it? If it's the old 1.3 OHV, then the engine survived in the Ka, albeit with fuel injection added, until about 4 or 5 years ago.

^ No, it has the 1.3L CVH OHC engine.

    What's a battery strap?

I order pretty much everything off these guys: http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/transitpartsireland1/ and then just get John from Blackchurch motors (ford jedi is his username here, to fit everything for me). Next day delivery is £10 with Fastway and I've never had to pay more than that regardless of weight/amount of items. Order over the phone is easiest with their Irish number: +3534894432266

If you have a VAT number they have no problem selling you the items EX UK VAT too, I've saved hundreds of euro on repairs and parts using this method.

If they don't have what I need, http://stores.ebay.co.uk/TRANSITPARTSUK might. Pretty much the same setup. Don't think they can do it EX VAT through Ebay so phone on +441268574425.

I got a take-off elbow for a '77 Escort in my local Ford Dealer two years ago - He had it on the shelf. I got a fair land as it's a fairly obscure part.

I regularly get the oil filters for my Escort in my local Ford Dealer, and never a problem.

EFL 90 - I can still get proper Motorcraft ones from the Main Dealer for my 30 year old RS2000.

I've never had trouble getting parts for my Mk. 4 Fiesta. Lyons of Limerick were more than happy to order a stupid little €1.50 plastic clip for the rear wiper. I'm very surprised they won't get a much less obscure part for a Transit. I think you should take your business elsewhere...

This is a good spot for Transit info :

    http://fordtransit.org/

I'd love to find a half decent smiley Transit. I have a 97 that the rust worms have devoured, still runs perfect but it won't pass a DOE.

I've found the same problem lately, had to make all my own gaskets for the thermostat housing recently as Ford could no longer order them,
would have done it either way as they told me I would have had to buy a box of 10!!

Best bet are to try some of the real old main dealers,
here in cork CAB and Abernathy's have had some of the more obscure things for my Escort, other then that ebay has found the rest

    No idea if it's true,
but I remember a friends dad saying oem parts need to be available for 10 years
after the model/generation of car/van has been discontinued before spurious companys take over

*** good idea if buying online is to ring a random ford parts dept.
supply your chassis number to get the right FINIS code so you don't order the wrong thing ***
    .

the law only states that car manufactures only make spare parts for cars for 10 years,
so if the car is near the 9/10 year they will not put anymore into production really.
So you have no comeback really
about the minium quanitys... they're sold some things in packets of 10/20, so theres no point in them in buying in that many if its only a sale for 1, so they ask the customer if they really want them, thats te minium they buy
