I hope you can advise or point me in the right direction with a predicament i find myself in. I was leasing a cafe/restaurant for five years and had come to an arrangement with the landlord for my contributions towards the gas and electricity. However at the end of my five years the landlord has issued me with two sets of bills for both gas and electricity, these bills however or not from a registered supplier but from read only metres he claims were always in place. My Query is.. is this legal for him to issue me with his own meter readings(spreadsheet form) and charge me accordinly. I would really be grateful for any advice or information you could forward me on legislation and law regarding the sale/resale of electricity and gas.

    Thanks
    Pff

my contract stated that a seperate gas and electric metre would be installed, however this did not happen, throughout the term of the contract we off set food charges against the bills and contributed monies, at the end of the contract he claims that the metres were always there, but the bills i have been given are from inhouse meters that he installed himself.

I would think that as well as the arrangement being provided for in the contract he would have to furnish original bills from the suppliers. Has your lease expired? If it has run for over 5 years you may be entitled to a 35 year lease. Tell him that he might come around. Relevant legislation in this area would be covered by the Landlord and Tenant Acts of which there are a number. The special conditions in the contract are important to refer to.

Any reason for resurrecting a two year old thread?
