Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    hi guys,
just wondering if a car is still under warranty and theres a problem with it that i dont know what it is (but i dont know much about cars at all) is it standard practice that the dealership sends out a mechanic to see if the problem can be fixed or do you do it through your insurance and charge any work to the dealer? also what happens with getting a replacement car whilst its getting sorted?
    thanks

Your insurance has nothing to do with it - that covers you against accidents, not mechanical breakdown. Standard practise is for you to bring the car to the garage for repair. Depending on the t&cs of the warranty, you may be given a replacement car while yours is being repaired. How old is the car?

hi, car is a e39 2001 (530d) ive had it 4 months and got it with a 6 month warranty... prob is that i got it off of a authorised dealer in Athlone and im in dublin. Been onto them and they've told me to get in touch with Joe Duffy as thats my nearest authorised dealership... waiting on them to get back to me. only real issue for me is going to be getting the car to them, as i dont think it'll make it the 20 min drive :(

If the car is undrivable then i'd expect them to collect it on a truck.

You might get away with having your insurance recover the car if you said it broke down...that's if you have breakdown cover on your policy. A friend of mine did this before when the car was boarderline to drive and no questions were asked.

I can't see it as being any different to it packing up on the side of the road to be honest but someone might be able to clarify it a bit...plus you may also be covered for a replacement car then too...

Mods feel free to delete if goes against anything

If the car was sold by an authorised BMW dealer and is still under their warranty then i'd expect that they won't have a problem picking it up. I'd be asking about the cost of extending that warranty too.
