Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yeah, and now they're working their way back up, if they can.

This is a step along the way.

I have absolutely no pity for them though, they deserve it for the way they treated football.

The Fulham game was incredible. After being crap in the first leg, I wasn't convinced they had a chance at qualifying but they never once gave up. It really is amazing how Hodgson has gotten so much out of players like Dempsey and Gera.

As for Juventus, they fully deserve to be dumped out. Far too many ego's and primadonna's in the team.

...and to think Roy Hodgson put his name forward for the Ireland job last time around and even went public with it on SSN. The FAI ignored him:confused:

FAI not knowing what they are doing? Never!
Seriously happy for all concerned with Fulham, richly deserved.

    (Juve fan BTW)

It reminded me so much of when we went out of the Champions League away to Arsenal in 2005-2006 (I think). That night we completely imploded as well and Camoranesi & Zebina were sent off. Tonight we imploded again and this time it was Cannavaro and Zebina who saw red. Melo should've been sent off late on too.

Absolutely disastrous performance. Any chance Zaccheroni had of getting the job on a full time basis is out the window now. We were 4-1 up against Fulham and couldn't just do a professional job, keep it tight and go through. The squad was riddled with injuries (Buffon, Manninger, Caceres, Chiellini, Legrottaglie, Giovinco, Amauri and Marchisio) but questions still have to be asked of Zaccheroni. He had to see, like the rest of us, that Fulham were all over his team and it was a matter of time before they got their 4th goal, yet he did nothing to change the game. I know his options were limited by Cannavaro's sending off but he kept both Del Piero and Iaquinta on the bench until it was far too late to make an impact. We were crying out for a leader on the pitch (especially after Cannavaro went off) so it would really have made sense to bring Del Piero on much sooner. When he brought on De Ceglie and signalled for Melo and Sissoko to both sit deep in front of the defence I knew we were screwed. Playing defensively is okay if you have the players to do it but the back 4 was three full-backs and a veteran winger. It was never going to work.

That 16 year old lad up front for Anderlecht bagged another goal tonight. Nearly 20 goals this season for him. Not bad!

So the 8 teams for the QF are:

    Fulham
    Liverpool
    Hamburg
    Atletico Madrid
    Valencia
    Benfica
    Standard Liege

and the winner or Wolfsburg vs Kazan (currently in 2. half of OT)

Not a bad lineup for the quarter final of the EL, imo.

I think its fair to say the only tournament to be seen in this year is the Europa League. Champions League is very 08/09.

Wolfsburg the last of the 8.

What's the breakdown between CL Losers and teams who've come right through the competition proper?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,156 ✭✭✭DubDani

    4-4

    Liverpool
    Atletico
    Standard Liege
    Wolfsburg

    vs.

    Hamburg
    Fulham
    Benfica
    Valencia

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

I'd say the two groups are about evenly matched. The draw tomorrow is for both quaters and semis, from 12 pm

Yes, open draw with no country protection.

As a Hamburg fan I would like to see:

    Liverpool - Valencia
    Wolfsburg - Atletico

    on one half and

    Fulham - Benfica
    Hamburg - Liege

    on the other. :)

Anyone will do , if we get Valencia - and win- confidence will be sky high for semis - we lose - well they are a classy side!

    Liege please for Atleti.
    Valencia please for Liverpool.
