god I wish other councils would do the same. I'm a single mum, on the housing list for 8 years, renting privately with no rent assistance. My son has had to move house 3 times in the last 3 years, and the lack of permanence is destroying us. The rent is crippling too.
btw, you are means tested for your rent in a council house - it is certainly not for nothing. But at least you're protected from the greed of landlords.
