Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Good budget camera for concerts and monitor recording

I'm looking for a camera that does passable photo/video in indoor settings, mainly in concerts and off HDTV screens and projectors. It doesn't need to be professional quality or anything, but I'd like to get the best that I can within my price range (not too much more than £120/€130 if possible though under the €100 mark would be great).

Something compact would be perfect, so I've been looking at the Samsung U10 and Flip HD - although I see the Samsung uses an internal battery so I'm worried about battery life. I'm open to options outside of these 2 cameras, or to buying extra battery packs if they're cheap.

I've heard the Kodak Ki8 is meant to be decent too, but I dunno specifically about indoor concerts and stuff for any of the cameras I've looked up since it's not something that tends to be covered in reviews, nor is recording from a TV.

Since I'll want to record a few vids in concerts, it would be helpful if the microphone is decent since I don't want to need to bring along an external mic (dunno if that would make security all iffy about bootlegs, too). Plus any kind of image stabiliser for photos and videos would be awesome, though I'm doubting you'd get that on a budget device.

As for the recording off TVs/projectors, it would help if the camera had a compatible mini-tripod that I could pick up on the cheap. Decent frame-rate (at least 30fps) on video would help, too.

Here's some shots from a concert that my brother took with his Kodak EasyShare C360 last year, I'd want it to ideally be at least as good as those shots (although I'll likely try harder to focus on the band rather than a sea of hands!):

Here's a video he recorded too, but I'd definitely want something with less interference from the stage lights and overall better quality if possible: http://jump.fm/WSTPI
Recording to a more common format like .avi or .mp4 would be nice, but optional since I can always convert it on my PC if I have to.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions! :)

Any of the bridge cameras (in between compact and digital slr) cameras should do a good job for what you want. Concerts sometimes can be asking a lot of the smaller cameras especially if the lighting is full on. I use a Canon G9 for more discrete jobs and it does video too and the stuff looks really nice from it, might be a bit pricey. I havent seen many other compacts other than some of the sony ones which look good too.

Sadly the G9 is out of my price range. :(

I'm really just trying to see what the best budget compact is since I'd need it to fit in my pockets if possible (anything too big would get destroyed in a mosh pit!).
