What kind of complaint is it?

What area of Galway are you in?

You could always contact your local councillor in that jurisdiction?

Contact details for Galway (City & County) TDs here:

    Galway city West....

When you say councillor in that jurisdiction.... how do you know which councillor covers each ward in Galway? Is that how it works?

Its ridiculous, I love politics on a national level but on a local level I know nothing about it. There should be class newcomers to Ireland can take on how local politics and councils work.

I could, but I'd prefer not to at this stage anyway. Not trying to be churlish but it is fairly personal in nature. But thanks for the info.... and if it really works like Kilnaskully I might just emigrate again!

I'll let you know if I have any joy.

OP, fyi, some info about the Irish political system here:

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/moving-country/moving-to-ireland/introduction-to-the-irish-system/political_system

    and here:

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/moving-country/moving-to-ireland/introduction-to-the-irish-system/local_government

Who to complain to (your TD or local councillor) depends on who's responsible for the area that's delivering poor service: the 2nd article gives some clues.

There are other articles from Google too, but those are the govt-authored (so I'm assuming ... possibly badly! ... most likely right).

Of course, how things work unofficially is a whole different story. One friend who's been here for 8+ years suggested to me that a good way to get things done is to say to Irish people who you respect, "what would you do if XXX happened to you?"

I have on my desk a very prompt letter reply from Frank Fahy's office to a complaint I issued via email regarding the Immigration office in Galway (and the fact that you have to queue up from 4.30am to get service that day). I was treated seriously and the issue was forwarded on, so I was happy enough- I recommend contacting his office anyway.
