Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I actually have shift/tilt gear for my Pentax K20D (and K10D backup body, and any other 35mm K-mount)

That video looks more like a video than shift/tilt work to me, although is is pretty awesome. ;)

If you're interested in shift/tilt stuff, there's a company in Russia called Arax (www.araxfoto.com) that make adapters for most cameras. (They make a shift adapter, and a tilt adapter, but not a shift/tilt adapter.. they also refurbish medium-format cameras.) Their adapters can use Pentacon-6 style mounts.. and there's a lot of excellent Carl Zeiss (and other makes) of glass out there in a Pentacon-6 mount at reasonable prices. (fotoSkoda in Prague - www.fotoSkoda.cz - has a good selection.)

Shift adapter, for $89, on eBay: Item number: 170455777663
Tilt adapter, for $141, on eBay: Item number: 150382415038

Seems to be the same type of adapters as arax, except from a US supplier.

I have one of those ARAX adapters, and a mir-38 (65mm pentacon-6 mount). Used fairly subtly for selective focus it's ok. Haven't used it in a while though, it's a bit hackneyed.

You might like to try this out before investing in any hardware. Has some pretty good results.

It's cheating slightly by not using a tilt shift lens, but it's free and you save yourself a grand.

There are also a couple of good tutorials on youtube explaining how to do this in photoshop.

Great video, for some reason I think it would make a great ad for Sony!?

Anyway, read his Blog and it was all done in PP. A hell of a lot of work went into it!

That video is, as the Americans would say, Awesome.

Again...you can't put a price on how a real lens/piece of kit looks/works compared to a photoshop effect. I personally can't stand the tilt shift effect in photoshop.

At this stage its a fad thats already been and gone (thankfully) and just looks fake and unreal, sort of like bad HDR images.

OP said it was a video, why all the concentrating on the technique? The video is great, enjoy it.

I messed around with setting in photoshop to get this sort of tilt-shift effect :)

Not bad, if a little over saturated, in the greens esp. If you toned it down a little I think it would look more like a model :)

If you look at that though.. you can see that the demarcation points between in-focus, and out-of-focus are far from natural, and you're not getting correction of parallax error and exaggeration of parallax error in different regions of the photo like you would with "true" shift & tilt photography.
(Correction of Parallax error is the point of shift, and distorting & moving the sweet spot off-centre is the point of tilt.)

That being said.. I really like the photo.. messing around a bit more with the regions that are in & out of focus, you might get it to look more "natural" and.. unlike some.. I really like the hyper-saturation of the image.. it adds to the surrealism. =D

Makes it look like a toy model playset.

    Excellent little feature.

If you are just looking for the miniature effect, you only really care about the subset of tilt-shift that shortens the depth of field.

Actually even lens tilt isn't strictly perfect for this, as the specular highlights are slightly distorted and stretched due to the tilt effect, something that you wouldn't see, at least not in the same way, if you were taking a normal macro shot (if you look at highlighted bokeh from a real tilt lens picture you can see this difference).

The page here is pretty cool with comparison shots.

TBH Dan. My favourite tilt-**** shot was your shot of the DART.

It's more believable because it actually looks like a model train

Anyone up for making their own tilt-shift lens?

    Found this project online: http://content.photojojo.com/diy/plungercam-diy-tilt-shift-lens/

Looks interesting! Might start a new project thread if there's other people interested too.

I love this effect, works even better with video imo.

I tried to achieve the effect with some post processing

but its nowhere near as good as what a geezer by the name of Keith Loutit makes:
