And here's the difference between COI policy and RCC policy:

"Det Ch Insp Carwyn Hughes of Sussex Police said; "The Church of England, including the Diocese of Chichester, are co-operating fully with police.""

More like persuading innocent young men that "Celibacy will allow you to consecrate your life and thoughts to God", and say a little prayer that at least sometimes that might be true. In this case, only 30% true, but whateva......

    A nun this time:

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2012/1114/mary-theresa-grogan.html
    RTE wrote:
She said that the nun would tell the other children to "téigh a chodladh" (go to sleep) when she called her up to her desk to correct her homework and indecently assaulted her there.

Sr Mary Theresa Grogan denies the 63 allegations of indecently assaulting seven young girls, mostly in a classroom. The woman said Sr Mary Theresa Grogan was her favourite teacher.

She told the court that she never slapped the pupils and gave her a lot of attention and made her feel she was special. The witness cried as she described to the court how Sr Mary Theresa Grogan, formerly known as Sr Peter, put her hand inside her underwear and assaulted her twice a week.

She claimed the abuse started about a month into the school year and would happen as she stood beside the nun at her desk with the nun whispering into her ear how good she was and that she was her pet. The alleged victim said she did not think what had happened to her was wrong until she had her own children.

She said she wanted to prevent the nun going into the school and being among children including her children.

That should be COE scum, not COI, BTW . I wonder why they decided to rumble these two after sitting on the incriminating information for around 25 years? Better late than never I suppose.
It seems that church authorities around the world generally are getting worried about the law closing in on them, and may be looking to get rid of any "liabilities" quietly, rather than risk having the allegations surface in an uncontrolled manner in the tabloid press.

From my own county Meath. Former priest is found guilty of molesting kids. Yay the system works. Wait, what how many years? Two? Ah ghghffhiljlijlkjlkhjgjuhlij

This day has really tested my will to label myself Irish.
An ex-priest has been jailed for two years for indecently assaulting boys at various locations in County Meath in the 1960s and '70s.

Raymond Brady (77), Baltrasna, Oldcastle, admitted 10 offences of indecent assault and one of attempted indecent assault.

Trim Circuit Court heard the crimes had been committed at parochial houses in Drumconrath and Kilbeg as well as in the victims' homes and at a caravan in Bettystown.

Brady had assaulted his victims on dates between 1st April 1968 and 30th June 1976 when the boys were aged between 11 and 16 years-old.

In most cases, the assaults began when the victims were altar boys and continued in their homes after Brady had befriended and won the trust of their families.

One some occasions, Brady would be in the sitting room with the boy on his knee fondling him while the victim's mother was in the kitchen making tea for the priest.

On other occasions Brady brought the boys on trips and allowed them drive his car while he abused them

The victims in statements read to the court said that the priest's actions had ruined their childhood and caused many problems for them in later life.

Some said they were still haunted by what had happened. A number said they had turned against the Church and no longer attended Mass because of what he had done.

Note that the Chronicle while not offering any outraged comments at the length of the sentence did take the time to point out that some of his victims had been so traumatized they stopped going to mass. The horror!

I am actually close to exploding after today.

That's less than three months per offence...

I'm guessing the lenient sentence is because of his age (77)
Prisons don't have the staff or facilities to look after someone in their 80's.
The scandal is that he was left unpunished for all these years.

Now I'm stuck with the mental image of that Fr Ted episode where he goes down to the parochial caravan and finds (actor Graham Norton) the singalong priest there already......:(

    Quantity discount

Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.

He's serving 10 sentences concurrently! So what do we learn? If you're going to commit a crime try and do it as many times as you can before you get caught. I bet he regrets stopping at ten now.

Welcome to Ireland - if one is going to gamble - gamble big.
If one is going to go into debt - make it millions.
If one is going to abuse children - make it dozens.

A christian lady lawyer with intractable problems with the gheys may have fewer problems with other kinds of rumpy-pumpy:

    http://www.examiner.com/article/lawyer-for-anti-gay-christian-group-arrested-for-child-porn
Lisa Biron, an associate with a national coalition of anti-gay Christian lawyers, faces federal charges stemming from her alleged activity in child pornography.

Biron, a New Hampshire lawyer, was arrested by F.B.I. agents on Friday, November 16. She faces the following charges: transportation with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, possession of child pornography and five counts of sexual exploitation of children.

According to federal indictments, the lawyer took a teenage girl to Canada, had her engage in sexual activity, and convinced her to let it be filmed.

The Concord Monitor reports Biron is associated with the Alliance Defending Freedom, a group of lawyers who, according to their website, are committed to keeping “the door open for the spread of the Gospel” by advocating for “religious liberty, the sanctity of life, and marriage and family.” In Concord, she worked with the ADF in defending a Pentecostal Church on Mountain Road in its tax fight against the city.

Biron is scheduled for trial in January. If convicted, she faces 10 years to life in prison on the transportation charge and 15 years to life in prison on each of the exploitation of children charges.

On Biron’s Facebook page, she listed the Bible as her favorite book.

Well... they do keep telling us that "we are all horrible sinners who deserve to burning in hell"... I guess they think everyone is like them?
Like people who commit other crimes who think everyone do it if they werent afraid of getting caught.

What a disgusting woman. I hope she didn't distribute the videos she made.

Also hope the fact that some of the crimes took place in Canada don't hinder the process.

Seem to be a lot of perorts of anti-gay religious folk turning out to be child abusers and/or sex pests. Are there any statistics in relation to this?

Don't acknowledge the security provided by God? Spend a year in jail!
    http://www.alternet.org/belief/year-jail-not-believing-god-how-kentucky-persecuting-atheists

How on earth can this law be upheld when it's so blatantly unconstitutional?

May not really be a scandal, but I think it's scandalous.

Closely mirrors the Brooklyn cases in the USA, where the District Attorney was alleged to have a policy of leaving the Jews to sort out their own paedo scandals (or cover them up) in return for continued political support from that "community".
The Orthodox Jewish organisation Agudath Israel of America, which has its headquarters in Manhattan, rules that anyone who claims to have been sexually abused by another Jew must consult rabbis first.
Only then is the decision made whether to go to secular authorities.

    Priest excommunicated for ordaining women

Not so much a scandal but you still have to groan at the Vatican's priorities on excommunicating certain group members:

Priest molests child: ''Just move him to the next town, it'll be grand''

Priest ordains women: ''We cast ye out into thy harsh world!''

    ^^

I saw that too and was surprised.
He withdrew the case from the jury on a number of grounds, including inconsistencies in evidence and a lack of corroboration in some areas.
He said that there was no doubt in his mind that the passage of time had seriously affected the memory of complainants.
He said he would not go so far as to say there was collusion among complainants, but said there was a risk of cross-contamination.
It is impossible to believe, he said, that events so significant in these ladies' lives were not the subject of conversation.

So, reading between the lines, he thinks they made it up. Intentionally or unintentionally. Perhaps one or two had genuine complaints and while discussing it with classmates managed to convince them that it had happened to them too. Logic being, after discussing it, they'd have false memories.

Or they fabricated it for profit. Or it really happened and this is a tragic miscarriage of justice.
