Relative is looking for a BB provider that's

    Reliable
    Compatible with Windows 2000
    Doesn't require a land line
    and is pretty cheap too.

A bunch of stipulations, and i'm not sure they can all be filled at the same time.

Irish Broadband are out, and Meteor aren't compatible.

Probably a tall order, but anyone got any suggestions?
    Thanks

    What makes them incompatible?

If it's 3G mobile you're looking at (Meteor is one) then none of them will be all that reliable, nor will they be Broadband. The modems are unlikely to work with Win2000 anyway, so none of them would be a choice.

Any proper broadband will come through an Ethernet connection, so compatibility will not be an issue.

Reliable, no land line, cheap - not many options there. Metro, Breeze, Cable (UPC or similar).

Microsoft support and security patches for Windows 2000 is meant to end 13 July 2010. The Relative might want to consider switching to a newer OS.

Irish Broadband Breeze and Ripwave will be compatible

    &

    NTL BB will be compatible

Most other wireless providers (aerial on your roof) will be compatible provided the computer has an ethernet connection otherwise known as a 10/100 network card which accepts a cable with RJ45 plugs on both ends (like an oversized phone plug)

Mobile BB sticks such as Vodafone, o2, Meteor can be tricky to install on Windows 2000.

Basically anything that uses an ethernet connection will work on Windows 2000
