Played the demo last night, boy did i get the wrong impression about this game from the tv ads. I loved it.

Damn it! I won't have a chance to go to town tomorrow and buy it, so I bought it on Steam, only to find that I can't preload it. Now I've to wait ages to be able to play it. :(

Why would you willingly fork out €50 for the/any game on Steam? I bought this game online and it cost me €25, and that was for the Limited Edition. Looking forward to getting my teeth into it. Not got much of a chance.

Really tempted to get this. Loved the demo. Its seems like this is what i wanted GTA 4 to be

So far im enjoying it. To begin with the lack of direction and the complete freedom i was given was weird but im getting used to it.
One complaint is that its getting pretty repetitive, go to location, find upgrades, blow up fuel tanks repeat, although i havent done many missions yet so maybe they will throw in a bit of variety

Really annoyed at the moment because games for windows is telling me the code I got with the game for the additional content is invalid
Enter it into Steam, not GFWL.

Couldn't agree more. I picked it up on the PC and finished the first mission..Started playing the casino level got bored and turned it off. It's something that I'll go back to every so often..it's not a game that'll keep you up at night.

I didn't have much of a choice. I couldn't get to a shop and didn't have access to my credit card (Steam saved my details). Plus I don't actually care too much about spending money. Not that I'm rich or anything, I'm just too stupid to think of the consequences.

Do you need a really fast graphics card for this? I downloaded the Steam demo but it's too slow to play, I only get around 3 fps in the Benchmark. I have an Nvidia GeForce 8400M... I can't believe it's obsolete already, it plays FSX and everything grand in Windows 7.

Man I suck at this game, finding it tough going even on normal difficulty :(

Any tip's or tactics for staying alive longer?

Also the planes are a right pain to fly

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,128 ✭✭✭✭VinLieger

The hints say to keep dodging using the right button which apparently reduces their accuracy but i dont think it does much although i playing it on experienced so dont know if that makes a difference.
My tactics now are chute into the base take out sams and then grab a heli, usually theres one on a pad in most bases but if not just cause enough chaos and they will very heplfully send one for you to use :P

Keep searching for all th upgrades you can get, especially the health ones. You usually find 2health crates under each bridge that crosses a motorway. This will obviously help you last longer. And don't even attempt to take on any town or region unless it's part of a mission. Only take them on randomly once you're built up a bit.

Played the demo, lots of fun but could see myself getting pretty bored of it. Is there much change between locales/missions?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,283 ✭✭✭Ross_Mahon

I kept blowing my car up in the middle of nowhere and having to walk miles to find a road without any cars driving past :(

If you call the black markey guy he can bring you a vehicle or extract you to a different location.

I'm not too far into the game but there only seems to be 4 different mission templates:

    • Escort a technician through an enemy base, then fight the colonel of the base who will be either in a tank or helicopter.
    • Blow up 4 objects in an enemy base.
    • Interact with 4 objects in a location (defuse bombs, move radars etc, its all the same)
    • Hijack a limo then bring the passenger to a drop off location.
It can get tiresome very quickly, but played in short bursts its a lot of fun. You cant beat stunt jumping on top of a flying 747 and sniping people from it.

A- Call the black market for a ride or extraction

B- Grapple on the ground ahead , hit a for parachute then pull back to lift up in the air, and repeat, great for scaling mountains in a hurry too.

I love the demo, i likes to take out the SAM sites and rob the chopper.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,496 ✭✭✭quarryman

Funny, I was kinda put off by the demo and I'm glad I picked up the game despite that.

I think the whole attraction is the sheer size of the map and the open-ended-ness. You just don't get that from the demo...

Loving the game but the lack of ammo is painful.

Was scooting up a mountain last nite and I happened upon a military air base. I found a fighter jet which was unbelievable. Some speed and maneuverability to it.

Got a few missions into it. Dialogue and plot is dire... I mean I wasn't expecting much, but I mean this makes the original Just Cause look like a Shakespearean play.

Gameplay is good. I'm playing it on my laptop (nVidia GT240M) and it runs fine with everything maxed except for GPU water simulation or something (also who would enable that Bokeh filter thing? It makes the game look like the camera has been dipped in a vat of vaseline)

Using a 360 controller and I'm sorely tempted to switch back to keyboard and mouse... aiming feels stiff. But I'm going to stick with it for the vibration feedback from the 360 controller, it's very well implemented in the PC version of this game.

Perfect game for short bursts as someone said already. I wish the black market items werent so expensive though, with no way to store vehicles having to pay 30,000 a pop for a plane/boat/even gun ffs it gets quite annoying.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,225 ✭✭✭Ciaran500

Surprised no one has been posting the mods coming out for this.

    http://jc2wiki.info/index.php/Modifications
Free black market, all vehicles on the black market and infinite grapple.

    http://m0.to/BOLOPatch/
Infinite ammo and health. But best of all strong rope and multi rope. Lets you do things like this:

Finished 2 missions in around 4 hours play :(

keep getting distracted by tethering dudes on bikes to anything really then laughing at the results.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,496 ✭✭✭quarryman

    Still absolutely loving this.

It's actually everything I'd hoped GTA IV would be. Brilliant sandbox with some mission structure to give it some pace.

Can't get over how capable the game engine is, draw distance is fantastic.

It really is the ideal game to hit in short bursts. Randomly pick a direction and see where it takes you.

Very much doubt I'll ever manage 100% though!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,317 ✭✭✭CombatCow

Yeah im loving it too, iv 40 hours play time and just got 50% complete, dunno if i'll ever get the platinum for this game tbh

Really loving this game, im gobsmacked by the shear size of it, the scenery is beautiful and theirs so much attention to detail it really puts gta games to shame imo.

Some of the missions are a little cookie cutter and samey but still a tonne of fun and some missions are epic like
blowing up the 3 rockets at the space station then finding out a 4th rocket is been launched and you have to take the fighter jet to blow it in mid air,
sat back in my chiar in awe at that one something that i don't do alot in todays games.
