I am supposedly a descendent of Miles Byrne. Would anyone know any good places to find more information about his relatives? I will be visiting the area this June. Thank you. Bill

Well, it might help if you gave some more detail:

    1. Where is he from/born?
    2. When was he born?
    3. Any other family names?
    4. His religion
    5. Is he alive or dead. If dead where he's buried.

If you know the answer to 1 & 2 above and his religion, you should be able to get details from the church records from where he was baptised. Also there are some geneaology services in Ireland that may be worth a look.

If you have detail on 1,2 & 3 and he was in Ireland around 1911 have a look here: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

I imagine the OP is talking about the 1798 rebel Miles Byrne and as he died abroad in 1862 so won't be in the 1911 census. In the first instance you could do worst that contact the Wexford Co.Library Service details here: http://www.wexford.ie/wex/Departments/Library/ - There is a lady called Celestine Rafferty who works for the library service and she may be able to help. :)

Wikipedia have an entry for Miles Byrne here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myles_Byrne

The 1798 Centre in Enniscorthy has lots of literature on the life and role of Miles Byrne if you were interested in purchasing a book as a keepsake or something.

I'm summer staff there and would be happy to forward you on any details of the centre, just PM :)

If it is the Miles Byrne of 1798 he had no children therefore you are not a descendent of Miles Byrne.

Sorry, I used the wrong word, I meant "related to". My great great great grandfather is supposed to be Miles 1st cousin. His name was John Byrne, (born 1790 - died 1860).

Ruins of the house he was born in can be seen in a place called Monaseed. North Wexford

Great, I'll sure try to find the ruins. I think it is down the road from Monaseed, in Ballylusk. My great grand mother, and her mother were supposedly born in that house.
