Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Travelling Waterford - Roscommon

    Folks,
Quick question. Is it possible to travel to Roscommon by using the new M9 or perhaps the M8 from Cork? I travel frequently to this area and relations of mine from Longford were talking about using the M9 to travel down to Waterford rather then going cross country.

I briefly use the M6 but generally take the exit for Tullamore then use the bypass to head down through Portlaoise, Abbeyleix, Kilkenny and so on. Its an incredible pain and I would prefer the use of a motorway myself.

Is it possible or just completely out of the way making no sense time wise?

You could go via the M1 if you wanted but it may not make sense!

Once you get to the end of the M9 and onto the M7 you're really starting to head in the wrong direction if you stay on the M7. You could cut across from Naas to Kilcock (there are worse roads) and onto the M4, taking in the toll (€2.90) just past Kilcock, but you should make good speed from there to Athlone.

Shur all you can do is try it!

You are talking about 290km instead of 220km. Are you travelling Waterford City - Roscommon town?

Would be safer and possibly quicker to do the longer route. Traffic in a lot of these places is a pain in the backside. Its just outside Roscommon town but I generally pass the outskirts of the town to get to it. Fourmile House area.

    HMMMM

roscommon athlone n62 to birr to roscrea thurles and onto horse and jockey. Go straight across the road and aim for fethard and then cross country to carrick on suir and then waterford????

It depends what your driving if you have a 45 foot container forget goin horse and jockey to fethard, go to cashel clonmel and use the n24 to waterford.... I know of more ways as well. I hate motorways anyway they are so god awfully boring. I always use backroads a way more fun to drive!!!

Downside to the M9 is you have to drive the awful N9 through Kilkenny and south Carlow to get to it.

my family live in fourmilehouse also, how mad is that:)

i always go carlow-portlaoise, tullamore bypass onto the m6 and then off at the roscommon exit, i know backroads around mountmellick and portalaoise always find it grand. you could go carlow-athy-monastervin, and back roads across to m6, but doesnt prove to be any quicker

You would be better off going on the N25 to Cork and up that way.

Which part of Waterford? :) Waterford City and Lismore mean different decisions.

The new M9 does make things a bit easier. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Athlone+Rd%2FN61&daddr=waterford&hl=en&geocode=FYpPMgMd4hOD_w%3BFRNgHQMdjDeT_ymxjKoSGMRCSDHd_qJoPHUpdQ&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=0&sz=9&sll=53.623467,-7.934875&sspn=0.605979,1.483154&ie=UTF8&ll=53.219191,-7.44873&spn=2.447208,5.932617&z=7
