Duplicate Files...

Just looking at a computer for someone and it has a ridiculous amount of duplicates songs.. Some are .wma, some are .m4a and some are duplicates of the .m4a with the same file name with a "1" afterwards.

Ive tried "TidySongs" for iTunes which looks excellent but isnt free. And im having trouble finding a free programming that can detect duplicates..

Anyone have any recommendations?

I just did a quick google search and came up with this

You can use the cleaning function once (Trial) which may be all you need it for.

Found an excellent program called Audio DeDupe that actually "listens" to the tracks to compare them and suggests that the ones with the lowest bitrates be deleted...

Cant find a similar free program though

you could do a search *.mp4.1 ,or *.mp3.1 as well .

How about just doing a search in windows explorer for *.<extensions you want to match> then sort by filename? Should only take a few minutes to find the dupes.
