Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm waiting for it to fleshed out a bit more (in case it's some disgruntled Arsenal fan temp working at Sky) before I start dancing.

Why do so many people here dislike Phil Brown?

Wouldn't say I like him but wouldn't say I disliked him either. Did I miss something he did or said?

    Oh, why?

*google search gives me lots of stuff about Fabregas spitting at assistant coach...*

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 905 ✭✭✭FUNKY LOVER

cause he made up a blatant lie about fabregas spitting on his assistant manager, even cameras showed he was lied.

the man has an opinion about himself.

Always a tough decision to make when your team is down there and the games are running out, could either save the club or cement their place in the championship, IMO they were going be going down regardless.

i respect what he did with Hull, absolutely, can't take anything away from him. a good manager, who had a small club like Hull City punching above their weight.

    but he's orange.

    "Hey Phil, Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee".

Thats the best possible news on a Monday morning. Delighted.

Did a decent job in getting Hull to the premiership and keeping them there for a year and half and still only 3 points of safety seems a bit harsh, regardless of wha Arsenal fans think of him.

I wouldn't be Phil Browns biggest fan but for Hull to sack him at this stage of the season is totally stupid and wrong and to be fair to Brown he took Hull from 22nd in the championship in December 2006, to the Premier League in 2008. Furthermore they were unlucky not to win Saturday night as you wouldn't guess who had the 10 men the way arsenal were playing. That is, me assuming his dismissal is for football reasons. Perhaps there is more to it.

This day could only get better if Sam Allardyce was arrested for nicking pies from his local bakers.

look it he's a joke of a manager no 2 ways about but i'll certainly miss the laugh i always had at him. Always thought he was footballs equal to that guy from the office

    how?

without resorting to the 'he's got a high opinion of himself' argument.

that doesn't mean he's not good at what he does.

maybe becaue his team are 2nd from bottom, and he has lost more games as a manager than he has won.

Shame really he had Hull punching well above their weight, i guess the upheavals at board level were going to impact at some point.

Who is going to take over Hull now?

    Brian Wilson wouldda been proud

In fairness he had good and bad points...

thats nothing to do with it,many managers take ovet teams get them promoted but cant sustain it at top kevel.he is probably championship material which isnt acceptable when your in the premier league, ala roy keane.

I don't like the permatanned egomaniac at all but to sack him now with only 9 games left to go is too little to late IMO.

it depends what you expect from a club like Hull City.

he got them promoted, then kept them up. he could have kept them up again this year,

either way, he's not a 'joke of a manager' which is what i took issue with.

As Rod Liddle might say, "Hull are suffering delusions of their own grandeur" , or something to that effect

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,153 ✭✭✭everdead.ie

I don't think he was that bad Hull played very well against Arsenal and didn't deserve to loose Hull don't play the most aestetically pleasing football by any means but they give 110% every match and Hull are far from relegated they still have a good bit of time to get out of the relegation zone

EDIT he's been doing better then Brian Laws who doesn't seem to be anywhere near getting the sack

I'm not his biggest fan either, but this is a mind-boggling decision by Hull at this stage in the season.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,590 ✭✭✭jaykay74

Phil Brown does not like that.

Should have sacked him on the pitch in front of the fans...

Brown was a decent Premiership manager. I never liked having to play Hull or Bolton when he was working there and that's a testament to the good work he's done. Sadly the premiership is a very fickle place at times and has a very short memory. Sacking him at this stage of the season is pointless though, should have either done it a lot sooner or at the end of the season!

Strange timing but I won't be shedding any tears over this decision. Adios Philip.

Seems like a bit of a stupid decision, not that I care for him.

    Also, wtf is "gardening leave"?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Gradening leave means you go to tend your garden, not join another club. Like anyone would have him.

Timing is a bit strange, but was never a fan of his.

Always seems a bit too 'David Brent' for my taste

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

gotta respect what he did at Hull, is this not an odd time to be sacking him?

strikes me as bad timing actually

always got a laugh off him tbh, never took him seriously on camera

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,917 ✭✭✭JimsAlterEgo

strange timing, did they actually expect to beat Arsenal?

  • Subscribers Posts: 16,596 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

thought he did alright at hull, if anything though he should have been sacked for the below when it happened.
