BTW he is now out of his 18 month contract since April 8th - Kilsmum

    Hey Daryl

I have a Iphone I got off a friend in Australia. The phone is locked to the OPtus network over there.

I'm currently an O2 bill pay customer.
Is it possible that I could get the iphone unlocked to work on the O2 network here in Ireland?

Should I PM you my details?

    Cheers

    J

I had a similar call. They were happy enough when I said I didn't have an immediate plan to leave 02, just that since the option of getting the phone unlocked was there, why wouldn't I use it?

They also told me 2 weeks but I had the text message through the following day.

Saying that, after connecting it to my iTunes account and doing the required to get it unlocked, it then came up with an error message telling me it hadn't worked. I haven't tried to put another SIM into it to check it, but I gather I just have to restore the phone to get the unlock to work.

    Hi ,

I have an iphone 3gs which I bought from adverts. The lady I bought it from got it from 02 as she was due an upgrade.

I am travelling to Asia in June and would love to use the phone on the local network there as thats much cheaper when you staying abroad for a long time.

I am an 02 pre pay customer by the way.

Could I get my iphone unlocked from 02?

    Thanks

I bought mine second hand last year as well, from a guy who had got an o2 upgrade, so I presume it should be ok to unlock. I can't contact him, as I believe he's gone back to France. I have PM'd as per instructions above.

Unlocked today!! Very quick service, Kudos to Daryll and gang.

Bought my 3gs on pay as you go and JB'd immediately.

I still have the original sim I used to register the phone with but that sim doesn't seem to work.

If I want to use o2 for 150 worth - what can I do, can I pick up a new o2 sim and register it?

    Hi all,

I understand that a number of you are unable to gain access to the O2 Forum because you are no longer O2 Customers. If you wish to get your iPhone unlocked please send me and "Talk2O2: Paddy" a PM with your IMEI number, Mobile number and full name and we will request it for you.

It is important that you send the PM to both of us to get your request processed with all possible speed.

Please look here to see the instructions and criteria.

If you have any other questions please let me know.

    Hiya,

Whats a PM number as I have the IMEI code and obviously my mobile number.

    Andrew

Can we keep the posts on-topic and relevant to O2 unlocking requests.

Anything else is not relevant for this thread and will be deleted.

MuhammdUmar you have previous posts saying that you bought Iphone and had it unlocked so why are you putting up new posts. Smells like your using side tactics to get iphones unlocked while everyone else appears to be genuine. Don't exploit the system and ruin it for everybody else.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 55 ✭✭MuhammadUmar

There is a misunderstanding here. Not trying to exploit the situation.

My iphone got unlocked and the seller helped me with it.

I bought another iphone on adverts and it was locked to 02.

Check my history if in doubt.

Learn to trust people my friend.

and FYI : I am a business customer of 02 and have more than one number on bill pay with 02. Each of them on the highest tariff, so I tought it would be okay to get the iphones unlocked.

I did not get the previous iphone unlocked with the help from this thread so how am I exploiting the situation?

I feel really insulted with your comments :(

well if i read the situation wrong i do apologise and the mod can pull the posts. but haven said that you do realise that the mod can click into your adverts and see that you have advertised a number of different iphones for sale recently. i think it's fair to assume that a person may view it in a way that you are getting unlocks for iphones because they enhance the resale value. it's just my opinion that if thats the case is goes against the spirit of why op set up the thread. good luck anyway

If you have more iPhones send me the PM with the IMEI and Number and I will have it handled for you if it is an O2 handset.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 161 ✭✭igor420

I got the first text from 02 saying

"O2 have submitted your unlock request for iPhone IMEI xxxxxxxxxxxx to Apple. Apple should unlock the device via iTunes within the next two weeks. O2."

I know the message says that it will take two weeks but i just want to know is there any way of speding this process up?

After i got the text i moved from Bill pay to PAYG.

I want to move over to meteor lite plan and buy an unlocked HTC desire and port my old 02 number over.

The thing is, i cant sell my iphone and buy the desire untill the iphone unlocked because i can sell to a bigger market with an unlocked iphone.

Is there a way to speed up getting the second "your phone is unlocked" text?

    cheers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 161 ✭✭igor420

I just got the second text there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 161 ✭✭igor420

I just unlocked my iphone through 02. I put in a new meteor sim and synced with itunes and it works fine on meteor.

I put my 02 sim back in and am now syncing all my contacts and texts back over so i can use it with my original 02 account for the next few days.

I am going to sell it in the next few days. My question is. Will syncing all my data lock the phone to 02 again. I doubt it will. I just want to make sure it wont lock up again before i sell it.

What if the phone is England o2?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 582 ✭✭✭Wanton

Not sure if its the right place to post.

Whats the likelyhood of being able to upgrade 8 months in to my current iPhone contract?

    Hi Lads,

Don't mean to be a nuisance but sent a PM on Friday and haven't heard anything back - is there a bit of a backlog or did the PM not arrive?

    Daryll:
will the iphone 4 be able to be unlocked straight off? obviously with the current T&C's...

I got a messages ago saying mine was all good to unlock from the Apple/o2 side but when I connected it I didn't notice anything happen - is there something in particular I need to do?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 257 ✭✭dougs09

Did you connect it to iTunes? Once you got the text it's only a case of connecting to iTunes and then updating your carrier settings, then your good.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,281 ✭✭✭Ricky91t

Daryll, I'm planning to buy an iPhone off adverts.ie or ebay, If the user has used it on o2( bill or PAYG ) how could I ask them to confirm this? And would they be able to request an unlock and then post it to me, Before it's unlocked?

    Thanks.

I connected to itunes and synced it but it didn't do anything unless it did it and I missed it - carrier settings anywhere I can check?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 257 ✭✭dougs09

i guess apple havent got it set up from there end then? cause i think once they give you the all clear, then once the iPhone communicates with iTunes, it'll know then that a request for unlock has been set and it'll then ask you to update carrier settings, at least thats how i guess it works.

but yes you should get the update carrier settings message otherwise it aint gonna unlock.
