    Music Appreciation with Ted Courtney
Music Appreciation with Ted Courtney will take place on Thursday 18th May from 3.00 – 4.00pm.
Welcome to the season of Bealtaine ; the season of early Summer when new a hope beckons to all nature. Flowers bloom, a young man's fancy turns to love and the girls dance and wear flowers in their hair. All nature celebrates.
Here in Ireland, we also celebrate the season of 'Bealtaine' with song and dance.
1 The music of O'Carolan and the similarities to Vivaldi in 'O Straviganza'.
2 Irish traditional dance, not the difficult tap dancing we see in 'River Dance' but the 'Walking to music with linking arms in the 'Ceilidhe'.
3 Irish Song. The simple and cheerful airs and songs like: 'Oro se do bhea abhaile' , 'A Phadin big' 'Beidh Aonach Amarach', 'Dile no damhas no damhas', 'Anois ag teacht '. Easy to sing and full of joy.
4 The Key of Peace; The role of voice and song in reconciliation. Reaching through barriers between alienated people and to create a mutual trust by cultivating inner harmony and peace. Especially now as more and more people who have just become Irish citizens wish to embrace our ancient culture.
No booking is required for this talk. All are welcome.

    Film Screening
Film Screening takes place on Friday 5th May at 2.30 pm.
Saoirse Ronan, Domhnall Gleeson, Jim Broadbent and Julie Walters star in this romantic drama adapted from the novel by Colm Tóibín.
Set in the 1950s, the story follows young Irish woman Ellis Lacey as she travels to New York City in search of a better life. Initially homesick, she begins to adjust to her new surroundings with the help of Italian-American Tony Fiorello with whom she becomes romantically involved.
After news of a family crisis, Ellis returns to Ireland where she enjoys spending time back in her hometown and becomes acquainted with a young man, Jim Farrell, finding herself torn between two very different paths.
The film was nominated for three Academy Awards including Best Picture and won the BAFTA Award for Best British Film.
Places are limited – please book by calling 01 8905609 or by emailing Donabate.library@fingal.ie.
