It's that time of year again, and the final stage of the Ras returns to Skerries on Sunday (the 26th)

    Details and estmated timings here

Expect road closures on the final circuit - Skerries, along the coast road to the climb at Ardgillan and Cross of the Cage then back down to the Skerries/Lusk road and into Skerries

IIRC in previous years the Guards closed the roads about 20 mins before the riders came through and kept them closed (certainly in Skerries) until the race finished (probably up to around 90 minutes of road closures in total)

There will be a street party in Skerries through the afternoon - details here

    Hi all,

We are a group of parents from the Balbriggan area who have set up a start up group to try and bring a 2nd Level Educate Together School to Balbriggan in 2016.

We are holding an Expression of Interest Day in Millfield Shopping Centre this Saturday 8th June from 10am to 5pm.

We will be looking for people to come and sign an Expression of Interest Form to gather information on how many people from our community would be in support of Educate Together as a patron of the new Balbriggan 2nd Level School which is due to open in 2016.

This will also be an opportunity for you to come and ask us questions and find out some more information regarding Educate Together.

We may even have lollies for the smallies!

The Expression of Interest is not a pre-enrolment form. It is a tool used to gauge interest and support in our efforts.

Please come along and support us.

BMX Demo/Fun Days this weekend in Balbriggan, behind Bremore Castle.

    BMX_Demo_funday_Balbriggan_jul13.jpg

Temporary tracks are being laid - bring your kids along (with their bikes - helmets are required) to have a go. It will be suitable for anyone who can sit on a bike - there will even be balance bikes available for the really young ones to have a try

EDIT - trying to avoid the chat but there is a separate thread in the Cycling Forum on a possible permanent BMX facility in Balbriggan

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,172 ✭✭✭Eoineo

If you or your family are interested in perhaps this being a more permanent feature in Balbriggan I'd urge you go along and support the BMX initiative above. We have been campaigning for a long time to get a skate park or similar in the area. If the Council see the demand then it should lead to bigger and better things.

Please forgive the unsolicited mail on behalf of Sonairte, the Visitor Eco-Centre and Organic Gardens, Laytown, Co. Meath, www.sonairte.ie.

Next Saturday, Kealin Ireland and Ciaran Beattie of www.leitrimflowers.ie are running a hands-on course on growing cut flowers for arranging. Kealin is a keen environmentalist and Ciaran is a renowned horticulturalist who used to manage the grounds of UCD for many years. Growing flowers organically alongside food plants also encourages biodiversity, especially pollinating insects like honey bees.

The course runs from 10am - 4pm, Sat 20 July at Sonalirte. The bus stops outside the door, check www.matthews.ie. The Laytown train station is a 10 minute walk away, check www.iarnrodeireann.ie. If driving then Exit 7 on the M1 gets you there. If cycling, take the bike on the train or cycle to Sonairte via Julianstown on the old N1. Cost of the course is €40 and includes free tea/coffee and fresh scone etc. Organic vegetarian lunch very reasonable at the Sunflower Café at Sonairte.

Please check out the attached notice and give Geraldine a shout at Sonairte at 041 982 75 72 if you wish to take up one of the limited places remaining. Please bring secateurs. a vase or jar, and a few flowers and greenery, if you can spare it from your own patch.

Make a space in your life for a bit of flower power! If next Saturday does not suit you, please consider forwarding this email to any friends who may enjoy reading about it and maybe doing the course themselves.

    Le gach dea-ghuí,

    Trevor Sargent
    Chair, Sonairte.

St Maurs G.A.A club 2 beach10k on Sunday September 1st. This is one of the nicest 10k runs on the circuit taking in our North and South beach. This year the run goes in opposite direction.

After the 10k run watch Dublin v Kerry on the big screen and enjoy some fine hospitality in our newly refurbished club lounges.

This was brilliant today - really well organised, brilliant day out for all family.

FLAVOURS OF FINGAL NEWBRIGE HOUSE 14-15 SEPTEMBER

The Flavours of Fingal Show is a two day event jam packed with events, it offers an exciting mix of ….. farm show, equestrian show, dog show, food fair, family fun and biodiversity interactive exhibitions.

As this is Dublin’s only agricultural show it offers both farmers and those amongst us who would like to see a cow or a sheep up close and personal the opportunity to experience the many and varied cattle & sheep competitions complete with commentary from the judges on what they are looking for in a prize animal and outlining the attributes of the breed. Nearby the Gymkhana and Equestrian arenas offer a lively mix of chases, trials, pony club activities, dressage and some interesting riding displays.

In Newbridge House’s beautifully tranquil 5 acre walled garden the main focus will be on the fabulous food Fingal both producers and creates complete with tastings and cooking demonstrations. The Walled Garden will also feature a Fingal’s Finest Craft Pavillion, an interative biodiversity area, garden displays,
expert corners, a music stage …. the list is exhaustive!

If the little ones liked the farm animals they will probably love the dogs at the dog arena! With a programme of chases, agility and cutest dog show, enough to have them asking you to bring one home! They can also challenge their skills in the GAA Experience and of course it wouldn’t be a family fun event without the family staples of face painting, balloons and bouncy castles

The setting for the show is Newbridge House & Farm, the house itself is a beautiful Georgian mansion dating back to 1736 and was home to Charles Cobb – the then Archbishop of Dublin. The house has undergone a programme of renovation and restoration returning it to its 18th Century grandeur and is open for tours. The Flavours of Fingal Show will be based in the grounds of the House and around its 19th century traditional farm, which in itself is a fabulous visitor experience with its picturesque old buildings, old breeds of farm animals, machinery and displays of the farming techniques which were part and parcel of Irish farming life in the 19th century.

Programme details are available on www.flavoursoffingal.ie
