    Hi All,

I hope you all are well. Please see attached details of free talks on young people’s mental health which may be of interest to you. For more information of to book a place please contact MentalHealth@cairde.ie or 01 8020785.

    Kind regards,

    Rosemary

    SUPPORTING YOUNG PEOPLES WELL-BEING
    FREE TALKs & DISCUSSIONs,
    May 7th 4pm & 7pm, Cairde Balbriggan

Mental health is the number one health issue for young people in Ireland today. Common issues include anxiety, tension, worry, family problems and school avoidance. Are you interested in understanding more about youth mental health?
Cairde, Balbriggan Integration Forum, in collaboration with Jigsaw North Fingal, is hosting a free information evening for parents and other concerned adults on young people’s mental health and well-being.
The evening will consist of talks delivered by Jigsaw North Fingal on ‘Supporting Young Peoples Mental Health’ followed by a discussion and open dialogue on supporting the mental health of young people growing up in Balbriggan.
‘Supporting Young People’s Mental Health’ is an hour-long talk aimed at parents and other adults concerned about the mental health of young people.
The talk covers the following topics:
    · Key issues impacting on the mental health and well-being of young people
    · The building blocks of mental health
    · The 5-a-day for promoting positive mental health in young people
    · The value of listening as a way of supporting youth mental health
    Emilia Marchelewska of Cairde said:
"Parents using Cairde services confide in us their worries about their children. We want to empower parents in the area, including migrants to support better mental health of all young people. The discussion taking place after the talk will give us all more insight into how various communities understand and experience mental health. Consequently, we envisage it will improve integration and intercultural understanding of service providers working in the area.
Armin Krautgasser of Jigsaw North Fingal said:
“We work with the whole community to better support our young people’s mental health and well-being and this talk and open dialogue facilitates this. People who have attended these talks in the past reported that they felt more confident about supporting young people’s mental health.
“I certainly feel more equipped to help a young person who feels troubled and would highly recommend this information session to parents, family members and anyone in the community who comes into contact with young people.”
    Date: Wednesday 7th May, 2014
    Time: 4:00pm- 6:45pm
    & 7:00pm – 9:45pm

If anyone is interested in friendly basketball game in Balbriggan there is a group of fans setting up in Hamlet Lane Community Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 8pm-9pm.

They are struggling with numbers especially on Tuesdays.

    Everybody is welcome!

They share cost of renting a hall, nobody earns money on it, so it will be probably one of the cheapest fat burning options during autumn / winter evenings (but won't beat running!)

They do not play on professional level - anybody can come and join.
If you are likeminded please contact gdfella via pm.

For more info - check out www.Balbriggan.org.

Public Invite to Balbriggan Open Day

The Balbriggan Community Council are holding an "Open Day for Balbriggan" on the 15th November 2014. As its name suggests, the “Balbriggan Open Day” is open to all members of the public and aims to highlight the wonderful diversity of clubs, social groups, businesses and organisations that are in Balbriggan. We have contacted over 100 clubs, social groups, businesses and organisations for participation in the event over the last 4 weeks and the uptake has been tremendous. Between 1pm to 4pm on Saturday 15th participants will use the opportunity to advertise themselves and inform the public about what they do. The list of participants that have already signed up includes those involved in youth activities, sport, music, acting, medical, social integration, language, toddler, scouting, special needs, public speaking and much more. The diversity is incredible.
The open day will be a great event and there will be something that will interest both young and old alike. We are hoping to include a family element to the day so that Mums and Dads are encouraged to bring their little ones with them. Hopefully the addition of some live music will be a crowd puller and entice passersby to take a look.
All members of the public are encouraged to find the time to come to the open day, irrespective of age and background. Browse the tables to see what is on offer here in Balbriggan. There will be the opportunity to ask questions and sign up to any club, social group or organisation that tickles the fancy.
It is exciting to share this great day with people who believe in promoting the town they live in and all that it has to offer. You can do this by joining in the fun on the 15th November. Come along and see what there is to offer. With your support we can make Balbriggan work.
The Open Day will be held in the Balbriggan Clubs Community Centre at 23 Dublin Street, (formerly the old Balbriggan Cinema), opposite the Bank Of Ireland and 100metres from the town square. If you have any questions please contact 085 7453020 or email balbrigganresidents@gmail.com
