Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Processing is kinda quick and dirty. By the way of a shameless self-plug, I'll be giving a slideshow at the Galway Camera Club tonight. There'll be more on show there.

I like it - nicely framed with the hills.

Good luck with the slideshow :D

It's a nice photo but I'm not mad about the processing. There seems to be alot of vignetting is it? Where the hills meet the sky and around the trunk of the tree. It gives the image an artificial look.

I think its pretty cool - kind of marmity though

That's actually an in-camera vignette due to a bunch of complicated things I don't really want to go into right now (time time time...). I can dodge the vignette out, but then I am left with obvious bad noise in one corner. There's a good example of it here.

I think KH is actually talking about the halos around the tree trunk and hills. Never a good thing. You -did- say that the processing was quick and dirty though so I was guessing that you were aware of it and just let it slide.

Haloing is from lazy high pass sharpening. :o

I figured as much :) Unsharp mask ? Are you using it for local contrast enhancement ? I use it on quite a few shots, but very subtly and with a gigantic radius. Generally if I'm processing a 5000x4000 or so image I'll run a pass at about 5->8% and with a radius around the 150 mark.

On the flipside, if I'm using it to sharpen up a resize for print I'll generally go with 100->150%, radius of about 0.8->1.2 or so, and a threshold of 2->4. All depends on how grainy the film is. Too grainy and there's no point in running it.

Tbh, it really doesn't look like it - It looks more like a dodgy combination of sky and mountains, if it were high pass, there's be plenty more halo'ing around the tree itself...

But as it is, the halo completely ruins the image.

I think it's a really strong image, but for the post-processing issues others have mentioned.

Meh, now I can see an odd grey/midtoney line down along the sides of the mountain...
