Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yep...avoid at all costs. I got one of them (without the display) last time they were out and it was a waste of money.

In what way was it a waste? Did it work at all? I'd just want it to scan in some family snaps, nothing major.

wouldnt really get usable prints out of them tbh, if its just a few family snaps, a camera shop would be a better option

If you're getting one of these, make sure it's compatible with your Windows version, I got one a while back and found it wasn't compatible with Vista so a total waste of money.

It "worked" fine....just the resulting image quality was dire. :(

I'd go with the Nikon Coolscan 9000ED over this.. the resolution on the Nikon is up to 4,000 dpi regardless of the size of the negative, and I think it can do up to 6x9cm.. although it might even do up to 6x12cm. That's roughly equivalent to 113 megapixel image. [4000dpi * (1/2.54) * 6cm * 12cm] (1/2.54 being conversion from dots per inch to dots per cm)

But.. to be fair, that hasselblad can do roughly a 41 megapixel image. (2040 dpi at 4" by 5") and the Nikon 80 megapixel at the same size. (4000dpi at 4" by 5")
The Hasselblad is also not a dedicated film scanner like the Nikon is, and there are big differences between scanning transparencies and scanning reflective surfaces. I think the Hasselblad has an advantage in bit-depth of 2-bits per channel, but 14-bits per channel is already billions more colors than the human eye can perceive. (the eye can perceive about 10 million shades of color.. which is of course a very approximate number since there's no truly objective way to measure this and it varies from eye to eye.)

If you want to spend the extra money on the Hasselblad.. go for it.. but I'll make bigger prints with more detail while spending an awful lot less with the Nikon. ;) (I wish I had the dosh to throw away on one!)

I don't think the Hasselblad is a good deal.. mostly name & hype.
