What are the chances of it ever being rolled out this side of the water??

there must by now be a big enough customer base to make it viable....not to mention the new customers they could attract for those outside UPC's radar

TV/PHone and BB in one easy bill

None, Sky Broadband in the UK is dsl through the phoneline. All dsl here is just resold Eircom which there's no money out of for Sky, therefore they've no interest.

First of all not all DSL sold in Ireland is just resold Eircom, BT/Vodafone, MAgent and Smart all sell LLU DSL.

Also, the situation in Ireland for Sky is almost the same as in the UK. In the UK most BB is just resold BT, with little money being made in it. But Sky was forced into this market as it had to compete with Virgins very attractive TV + Phone + Broadband triple play packages or risk losing valuable TV customers. Basically broadband is a lose leader for Sky.

Sky in Ireland face the same competitive pressures with UPC, so I wouldn't be surprised if they enter the Irish BB market at some stage.

Specially now with the new lower LLU prices.

If Sky do enter the market in Ireland they'll likely do the exact same thing as they did in the UK....buy an exisiting provider :)

As time moves on it will all became about triple play services, landline, broadband and TV
    - BT have it with BT Vision
    - Sky have it with their offering
    - TalkTalk now have it with TalkTalk TV

Next up after that is quad play services (4th service being mobile),

The same will eventually happen in Ireland as it is with have:
    - Magnet
    - UPC
offering triple play services so far (didn't Smart also do it at one stage?)

Anyway as for sky entering the market I wouldn't hold your breath just yet as it could be a good bit off still

Yes, I was surprised Sky (or O2) didn't buy Smart when they were going, too much debt I'm guessing.

LLU can't easily make money in Ireland either.

Though the wholesale LLU line rental has dropped in price you still pay exhorbitant money for exchange space, access, MDF space, backhaul etc.

Also pair gains, poor rural lines etc mean that dsl is poorest in areas that Sky is strongest in. DSL is best ironically in UPC cable areas.

Smart too few LLU exchanges, too little infrastructure and too few customers for Sky to be interested.

The market is too fragmented here still. Sky would have to buy maybe 3 operators to compete with eircom / UPC. Like Digiweb-Smart, Imagine and Magnet.

Agreed, realistically speaking it could be a logistical nightmare to begin with to support all three/four types of services when compared to just one like ADSL.
