No, United at home first in the semi

Indeed - Lyon have shown themselves to be a tough side too. In honesty though, I would prefer to play either of them over Arsenal, Barcelona or Inter.

United are by far and away the best team in their side of the draw.

Bayern are one of the tougher teams we could have drawn tbh

They have great threats from both wings that can cause anyone problems

    bring it on!

They're not much better this year either.

I fully expect CSKA to beat Inter Milan. I fancied them as a dark horse when the Champions league started, just sorry i didnt back them e/w

Come'on Bordeaux.... Oh wait it's the other Bordeaux

Was wondering why I hadn't got a txt from the manager!

Are United/Bayern and Arsenal/Barcelona playing on the same night?

I hope not, because they are the games I want to watch.

Anyone who thinks United normally get the easy route is quite frankly deluded beyond repair. Consistantly over the past few years we've been given one of the most difficult draws. For the last 2 years, we've drawn the toughest possible teams available to us in the last 16 with Lyon and Inter. Had to beat Barca in the semis to get to the final to win it. People just believe what they want to believe, its hilarious.

    By far and away?

They are a slightly above average (ageing) team with a big name and 2 or 3 players that carry the team. If they wouldn't have Rooney this season they would probably not even be in the draw anymore. I honestly have no idea how people get the motion that they are such a great team and so much above all the other teams in Europe.

I think Bayern and Lyon on their day will both be able to dispose of them.

yeah but they look a shambles in defence.

I think we should beat them.

Ribery and Robben will cause problems though.

    Dreading Nev up against Ribery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As usual? Absolote bitter bull from you.

99 win - Barcelona and Bayern in our group, beat Juve and Inter to get to the final

08 win - Lyon, Roma and Barcelona beaten on the way to the final.

Suppose Inter were a rubbish side last year too.

    Such bitter spite.

Calm down it was a joke. I explained that I forgot the :p and :) when I did the post.

But I guess its ok for people to say Liverpool fluked their way to the title in 05 when they Beat Bayer Leverkusen, Juve and Chelsea on the way to the final.

or 07 when we beat Barca, Arsenal and Chelsea on the way to the final

A possiblity of no English side in the semis is very real now. Id like that.

Man U will not have it all their own way against Bayern.

I'd say United are in the final.

Arsenal vs Barcelona is mouth watering. All French, can't call. Inter will beat CSKA.

United vs Barca final looks on.

Score Draw in the Allianz would do, then take them to OT and batter them.

That's how it will pan out

Bord spanked us at home in the league but Lyon are more experienced at this level so you never know with that tie.

Both Ribery and Robben are made of glass, so there's a chance United won't even have to worry about them. Anyway, Bayern are so fragile defensively that they shouldn't be a problem to the likes of Valencia, Rooney and Berbatov.

I don't see how any United fan can't be happy with this draw. Bayern are at best, the 4th best team we could face [behind Barca, Arsenal, Inter]. So it's a good draw. Then in terms of the half that we are in, it's not unfair to say that the team that wins the United Bayern game are favorites to get to the final.

Other side is tough, I think that Barca might actually lose, and Inter might get to the final.

ha, what a draw for Utd.

that's what Fergie dreamt about last night.

Barca and Utd kept apart until the final again.....:p

i must say, i'm delighted that we get to see Arsenal v Barca twice.

though I cannot see how Arsenal will win; far too defensively frail to ever cope.

Titi's return will be a nice sideshow too.

If that happens and Barcelona lose then for me SAF will never have a better chance of winning and it will Manutd to lose.

United seem to get easy draws because they're usually considerably better than 6 of the other teams in the quarter finals.

Yeah, if Barcelona get knocked out, then United would need a collapse of epic proportions to not win the tournament.

I dont think they can because of tv markets UEFA will want to keep the English teams playing on different nights for the ratings

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,287 ✭✭✭davyjose

We got Inter, Arsenal and Barce last year, and we were just told the draw "always" favours us. Bout time we got a slightly easier run.

That's not true, it's an easy draw because out of the 8 teams there is a pretty clear demarcation in quality - Utd, Inter, Barca and Arsenal in one corner and Lyon, Bordeaux, CSKA and Bayern in the other. That Utd have a clear path to the finals that avoids everyone on their side and even has the favourable home away leg for their quarter IS an easy draw

Of course not, they heat half the balls.

Here's praying that both Ribery and Robben are both fit for the two legs. I'd nearly put money on it that one of Bayerns top performers will miss some of the action though.

By guaranteeing a French team in the Semis?

Man Utd / Bayern are on tuesday night

Arsenal / Barca are on wednesday night

    1st legs

    2nd legs reversed

We look to have an easier run this year, agreed. But to claim there is some kind of conspiracy is crazy - we've played all the top teams over the last 2 or 3 seasons. Sometimes more than once.

The group games would be irrelevant by that stage.

It would be a great tie because of the clash of styles, because Inter will be so ****ing through the roof up for it, and because the atmosphere in Milan would probably be insane.
