Cit Xsara Exhaust Humm - or is it ?

    Hi

    Was taking a look at the GF car a 01 xsara 1.4. seemed to have developed a humm comming from the exhaust at speed.
    I took a look and could find no leak at the rear box or the center box. It does sound like its comming from the rear though. Took it for a drive and it seems to be worse at higher speeds.

    With the clutch down at 40/50 MPH it still sounds quite loud but at tickover stopped you cant hear it at all.

    So this is making me think it might be a wheel bearing but would a bearing make a sound like a big hole in the exhaust. If I gerk the steering to the right while driving it seems to stop for a second.

    Got the rear wheels up and there is no play in either of them but the left one seems to make a louder noise when I spin them around with my hand.

    any ideas?
