Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What y'all reckon of the shortlist for best blogs of the year?
The list is here, ya just have to scroll down a bit. Who'd you pick as your winner?

There seems to be a lot of 'flowery, family' shots in some of these. Not that that's bad, but the long list had so much variety, it seems odd that it was whittled down to similar themes.

I'd vote for Kev @ kevoto. Stands out well above the rest imo :)

Who reads blogs these days? Most of them are boring and useless. Blogging makes everyone think the world wants to read/see their boring live's. Unless it's something really special, I aint looking.

I'd agree. Picture-wise it's probably my favourite, but it's a little fiddley to use.
Iced-Coffee is nice too. Great pics and bit more user friendly.

Was surprised Richard Gilligan wasn't nominated though. One of my faves. No sign of any of the Ruth Medjber's one either. That's a cracker too.

I wouldn't agree. I have some photo blogs in my RSS reader so I can view the photos. If I like one a lot I click on it to view more details and/or comment on it.

The 'finalist' shortlist (shortened from the longer one) is meant to be out today but can't find it

    www.culch.ie/
    blog.obrienswine.ie/
    beaut.ie/blog/
    www.nialler9.com/
    sluggerotoole.com/

There's a difference between personal blogs and blogs. The ones above are pretty fantastic in their individual fields.

Strikes me that if the only thing you can think of worth blogging about is people's "boring live's" (sic) then the problem, my friend, is with you :D

Seriously though, my google reader is packed to the gunnels with photoblogs and blogs about photography. Some of them are pretty boring but have great pictures, some of them offer really incisive reads along with reviews of other photographer's works and so on.

It's simply a matter of opinion. i do stumble across the very odd one that makes me stop and look closer, but all these nobodies posting up family pics and blogging about their boring holidays ..? Nobody would have read their diary if it was in shops for free years back, so why now?

i don't think it's about you wanting to read it, it's a personal project for the blogger and a way to express themselves, who says they have to do it in the confines of a journal hidden under their pillow?

i use iGoogle to keep track of tons of all kinds of blogs, personal ones, photographers, bakery & cooking, some fashion, lots of design and style. they are an amazing way to be inspired and to see all the fantastic creativity that's happening across the world. i also know lots of people who read blogs!

i think the blog awards shortlist is full of an amazing variety of photographers and different styles of work, there's nothing 'flowery' or 'family' about most of them and when it's there it's done quite well. i don't know who i'd pick as a favourite, i rather like redmum :)

Yeah, they're expressing themselves in the hope that you'll want to read/view it. There are good ones as I said, but there's an awful lot of boring ones out there too.

So what? You don't have to read it. Just ignore it and move on.

    I agree.

The option to view the original photo is an excellent feature.

Thanks for pointing that one out, the 'original' option is eye opening too!

After reading TheCageyone's blog I have to say I totally agree with him.

So, it's just like the magazine shelves of a large newsagents?

Why do you expect you should or would like most blogs?

Ronan Paliser shoots the photos I'd like to be able to take, and will, one day.
RedMum shoots the photos I like to look at....decisions, decisions....
