Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,

I bought a Pierburg MAF for my 2005 320Cd but it looks totally different to the current MAF.

Could someone tell me how to install the MAF?

The current MAF looks like this: http://www.maf-shop.com/product_info.php/language/en/info/p19_BOSCH-Luftmassenmesser-fuer-BMW-0928400527-0928400468-13622247074.html

The Pierburg one I bought looks like this: http://www.maf-shop.com/product_info.php/info/p68_Pierburg-Air-flow-sensor-7-22684-09-0.html

    Any ideas?

Take out the two torques screws ( i think they are tamper proof ones) and slide out the old one, slide in the new one.

Have fun with that. You'll have to remove the existing sensor from its housing with a "special" tool. The sensor and housing are located just after the air filter. Depending on who you talk to, some say the sensors are calibrated to the housing in which they are shipped in and that replacing the sensor by itself can cause issues.

Have you gotten any opinions that this particular sensor works well with your setup?

If only you asked this question before ordering it. Oh wait, you did and were totally warned that they were not only different parts, but one was a MAF plus housing and the other a sensor only. And quite likely not interchangeable. Learn to read thanks.

    Hi all,
Sorry - I'm only getting the chance to order this air flow meter now.
On the links posted on the first page I'm going to go for the Pierburg - getting good reviews on other forums.
However in the pics on the website they both look different, phycially. And one is called an Air Mass Flow Meter and the other is an Air Flow Sensor - are these the same things?

The Bosch link is the whole sensor plus housing (this is how they are usually sold). The Pierburg part linked is just a sensor, which needs to be inserted in the housing. I dont know about your exact car and MAF housing setup, but I would suspect you cannot use a Pierburg sensor in your existing Bosch housing (apart from physical differences, MAFs are calibrated for exact diameter and airflow characteristics of the housings they are made for).

Seems you need to do some more research on the exact non-Bosch part you should be ordering.

EDIT: You need a Torx ("torques" :D ) security bit set to remove the screws holding in the Bosch sensor and then slide in the Pierburg, if it physically fits at all.
EDIT2: From your Pierburg MAF page, are any of these PNs your existing Bosch PN?
