    Irish broadband penetration reaches 32.4% in Q4 - ComReg Monday 22 March 2010


    Overall communications market revenues in Ireland fell by 2.3 percent in Q4 2009 to under EUR 974 million, according to the latest data from regulator ComReg. Total voice traffic minutes were up 1.4 percent to over 4.8 billion minutes, with growth driven by mobile voice traffic, which increased by over 84 million minutes to more than 2.6 billion minutes. Total internet subscriptions in Ireland increased to 1.57 million in Q4 2009 with narrowband subscriptions continuing to fall, down 18.3 percent to 127,689. Broadband subscriptions were up 6 percent to 1.44 million. The broadband per capita penetration rate (including mobile broadband) was 32.4 percent in Q4 2009, with the fixed broadband penetration rate reaching 21.9 percent. Mobile penetration per capita (including mobile broadband) was 119 percent and 108 percent excluding mobile broadband..

    actually IN above piece.

    It's Mobile Internet, it's down to 50kbps. Of course the Dialup (AKA Narrowband = up to consistant 128k ISDN! or 49kbps on 1km analogue line) is down. €26 a month line rental is more than the basic Mobile Internet charge. A no-brainer really.
