That would be completely of topic, just start a new thread yourself.

Hi Poster Man, would be interested in getting together for a hike and am free that weekend so count me in. I don't think I'd be able to lead the walk, I'm confident with a map but only been out in good weather and down in Kerry so wouldn't know the area. I'm in Dublin now for the summer and would love to try and keep up a bit of walking. I don't drive so depending what time your starting i might cycle out. Good luck with this and hopefully you get a few takers.

You could always look to see if there is a scout venture unit in your area, they will have people around ages of 20 + these people will know there stuff. Some venture units are very active and gr8 fun (nothing like scouting) but just a bunch of like minded ppl enjoying the out doors, + you would have insurance etc if a member so if rescue 116 (Helicopter) dose have to save your ass it will all be covered by scouting Ireland :D also venture unit will do rock climbing bit of camping if anyone else is in to that sort of thing!

Thats interesting about venture scouts, I was looking in to it, seems its just being set up at the moment and they are working on getting it started.
By the way I could be wrong but Im pretty sure there is no charge for rescue by the coast guard helicopter. There is certainly no charge if you are rescued from the sea so I cant imagine why it would be any different if they pick you up off a hill!

cool well best of luck with it - it is gr8 fun and something that all outdoors types should enjoy :D

re the charge - ya i think pick up etc is free but, they like you to donate something + when you end up in hos. you are then covered etc - tho thats just a side note its not realy something to think about lol unless you very unlucky person :P

Yeah the Mountain Rescue is a voluntary service, the air rescue is AFAIK subcontracted by the goverment to a commerical service, so a donation to the M.R. service is well in order if you do get pulled of a mountain.
