Some forums have them turned off. I was actually going to use Politics as an example when I saw the thread title.

Being specific, the reason Politics has them turned off is an amount of scamps in the past registering multiple accounts to skew various polls. So it's rare that the forum has them at all. We rely far more on encouraging people to do their best to make worthwhile additions to discussions than just running polls as a result.
