Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Looking For Irish Scenes/Ideas for a Calendar

For the last few years I have done a calendar – and used it as a kind of stocking filler at Christmas.

Last year’s (I mean the one done in late 2009 for 2010) was my favourite.

I got 20 done(A4 size) at an overall cost of €200 including post.

And the crowd called out for more.

My theme for the last few years has been to keep to the seasons( kinda buds in spring and leaves in autumn –as a simplistic view ) - but I have to admit that as I went on 2 photo holidays abroad in 2008 and 2009 most of the photos were non-Ireland ones.

This year I hope to move up to a A3 calendar and move totally towards Irish scenic views for 66% of the photos.

(I do a Rugby photo for Feb/a Horseracing one in June & a Gaelic one in Sept and my backyard Robin is a fixture for December)

So here is where maybe other people can help me if they want to- with the other 8 ‘Irish’ months – I am really looking for places to take good photos of our country.

I don’t really want a shot of the Giant’s Causeway or the Cliffs of Moher or the Killarney lakes - and unfortunately I will not do a long hike to high mountain places as they don’t sell drink up there!

But I have a car and can travel!

Seriously and genuinely I’d love to get a bit of decent guidance from the people here as to where to get 8 great shots of Ireland for my 2011 calendar.

    Anyone else interested?

The only guidance I can give is for going on long walks up the hills far away from places which sell drink. Are you an alcoholic? Perhaps you could stay on the wagon long enough to wander up The Spinc in Wickla, or Glendalough, or Lugnaquilla, or Brittas. The weather will inevitably let you down if you're looking for summery scenes. Here's one from Brittas last year on Easter Monday. It was bleak. But I like bleak.

Lovely shot - but basically you are right - there has to be drink there.

    A good pub.:pac:

    A bit a Craic.:D

And maybe and especially a bit of music too!:pac::pac::pac::pac:

I'd have to go with Hugh on this one. The best shots are off the beaten track. I was up at 4am this morning to do the Spinc loop and didn't pass one person till midday. 6/7hours of amazing landscape to myself.

If you really can't be with people/drink(...?)/a bitta craic, get some mates into a car and head up Sally's gap get out every so often and walk for 5/10minutes from the road, take a few shots then repeat the whole way around your Wicklow drive..? :)

You could drive all the way to ladies view near Killarney and get a lovely pic of the lakes very easy. then back for opening time in the pub or maybe an early house you raging alcoholic!:D
