My Best Friend's Wedding is on RTE2 tonight, sweet!

Took me a second to realise that was the name of some film or something.

Sorry, I contemplated adding inverted commas but I decided against it :pac:

There's a great programme on RTE now about au pairs. I think this is the last one in the series. It's really, really good. It's about au pairs coming to Ireland and it's relly cool seeing how they all get on, especially as I'll probably end up doing in myself at some stage.

oh no, that was the last one?! I really enjoyed that. The girl tonight was very lucky she had such a nice family...though I don't know if I'd like to be stuck in the back end of no where...

Anyone else think films need to have more likeable Nazis?

I mean, obviously Hitler wasn't likeable or anything, but films seem to portray every single member of the German military or public service at the time as evil, violent, foaming at the mouth racists.
Where the hell are the "Oh I'm just doing my job" Nazis or the "I'm starting to feel bad about what I've done" Nazis.

The above can apply to all "Bad guys", but this was the most obvious example.
It's not a new concept either, I think there was some small independent film called Schindler's List or something similar which had something like what I'm talking about.
Maybe it just wasn't successful enough to be worth keeping in mind when you're making this year's explosion-porn.

    I liked Hans Landa. :)

Infact the Nazis in Inglorious Basterds were all pretty likable.

Everyone in that film was likeable tbh.
I think it counts less when it's for comedic effect :P.

There was also one, a sympathetic Nazi general, in The Pianist (a fantastic film if anyone hasn't seen it).

Finished season two of Dexter. Thought the end was a little anti-climatic but overall it beats season one by a long shot.

Got both Schindler's List and The Pianist recently to watch again, but haven't gotten around to it, been stocking up on films for the summer :P.

Keep it up, a few more dips in quality in next two seasons but it always recovers, and by the end of Season 4 you'll appreciate it as one of the greatest shows ever.

The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas

    It broke my heart

I've been meaning to watch that for ages but keep putting it off because I know it will break my heart too and leave me upset for ages. I cried for a long time after The Notebook which wasn't even sad so I'm afraid of this. Is it worth it? It seems like a film you should see.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,029 ✭✭✭Extrasupervery

It is very very very very very very different from The Notebook

But watch it! Just not when you're feeling really crap or anything. Mostly it'll probably anger you.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,590 ✭✭✭Pigwidgeon

We had to read the book of the boy in the striped pyjamas in transition year. So sad, haven't got around to seeing the movie yet.

The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas

    It broke my heart

I read the book, and I was just stunned by it... It was very sad. I don't want to see the movie because I don't see how it could be anywhere as good as the book.

Yeah i'd say you're right. I remember even the ads for it made me so mad, seeing a child in that awful situation. Like you read so much about the concentration camps but to see a film about a child in it would take it to a whole new level I imagine. Anyway, I shall put it on my to do list. Thanks!

I've heard it gets better alright. Think CD Wow is the cheapest option for season three right now but think I'll just wait for college to start again and download it.

I really wanna watch The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas but it turns out my little sister sold her copy of it. She says it scared her ****less.
