[Student Survey] Dublin Commuter Survey

    Hello,

We are a group of DCU students carrying out a survey for our final year project.

The service we are proposing is a motorcycle taxi service, based in Dublin City. Motorcycle taxis are popular in Paris, Rome and London, but have not yet made it to Dublin.

We believe the amount of traffic currently on the roads around Dublin City at rush hour times is a major source of stress for commuters, and our service can significantly reduce journey times, at a lower price than standard taxis.

Here is a link to our survey. It contains only 8 questions, mostly multiple choice, and should take no more than 2 minutes to complete.

Thank you for your time, and if you have any questions or feedback, please post them here.

Before you do anything, have you enquired to the Taxi Regulator if such a service is legal in Ireland? If not, it may render your work fruitless.

Thanks for the reply. We have looked into this, and the current legislation means that we will not be allowed to officially call the company a "taxi" service.

However, we can still legally operate and get insurance for carrying paying passengers. We realise that not being governed by the taxi regulator is a major issue, but we are looking into ways to resolve this.

I think there is already a similar service in operation.

This is just a theoretical proposal for a final year project.

All they may have to do is mention the current legal position.

Thanks, we are aware of airbike, and they have gotten lots of good reviews in the media. They are targetting more of niche market, however,
and are fairly expensive. Our idea is more of an alternative to taxis/buses/cars

Yes, we are more or less just trying to find out if this business would be feasible, and the legal issues are a part of that
