Akin to schools, Parents should put their unborn children on the waiting list now. That way by the time they're around 25 they may have reached the top of it and be working in a job where they can afford these ridiculous ticket-prices.

im going to the scotland match in murrayfield, make a weekend out of it, still be cheaper than going to dublin for the game

Got to all games in Croker last year but refuse to pay that money. Will keep my game money at thomond this year. Enjoy it more there anyway even for the lesser magners games. Aviva is too expensive when you take into account travel tickets drink hotel.. I'll spend my money local this year

Indeed i get far more enjoyment from a leinster game than an irish one

I certainly won't be paying €100 for any game.

  • Guess I won't be enjoying Lansdowne Road again :(

I'd rather stick nails in my rectum while riding a sweaty hooer with chlamydia in her armpits.

    Jaysis christ almighty.

A hundred quid to watch a match?

Suppose, it'll weed out those croker proles, and the royshers can keep going to the games.

Ah, the Aviva Stadium, quickly turning in to one of the biggest white elephants in the history of the state. 'Build a stadium and they will flock'. Ya well they would if it didn't involve their wallets being raped. Those prices are an insult to an economically depressed nation. I hope the people vote with their feet but I doubt it.

Cannot understand this. I'm attending the challenge cup final in rugby league in Wembley in two weeks time. Now that's Wembley, a magnificent stadium in the heart of one of the greatest cities on earth for one of the great showpiece events of rugby league. The best, and I mean best, seat in the house costs £76 stg, that works out at about 83 euros. You can get in to see your team play for 20 quid if you fancy. This was a guilt edged opportunity for the clubs/rfl to make a killing by scalping fans, Leeds alone sold 50,000 tickets the morning after we qualified for the final, but no one saw it as such. Its a times like this I'm glad I'm an RL fan. IRFU take note.

As for the dubious privilege of paying a ton to watch ireland slogging it out against the Italians or the scottish in the 6N or having our asses handed to us by the AB's/Bokke I think I'll keep me hundred yo-yos in me pocket. I've already got travel/hotel expenses to consider, stick extortionate ticket prices on top and well, for what's on offer, quite frankly, it's just not worth it...First comes hubris, then nemesis.

meh. not sure why anyone is surprised at the prices.

sure i was priced out before we left for Croke Park. tis why i steward...couldnt afford to watch the games in real life otherwise.

Agreed. Plus I wouldn't even mind as to what a ****-up it's turned out to be if it was all just the FAI/IRFU funding this mess and then ripping off their customers. That's their own business. I object to €191m of revenue being spent on this overpriced, inadequate mess.

You'd swear I don't have to pay for my tickets either.

I'd like to read your thoughts on the pricing justindee or the IRFU's reasoning behind the pricing.

They had a taste of what a sold out 80,000 capacity stadium could make and they don't want to give that up.

For the price of 2 and a half international games you can get a Leinster season ticket to 11 home games in the ML, 3 home games in the HEC group stages, first preference on tickets to all away Leinster games including HEC knock-out stages, first preference on any play-off games involving Leinster, raffle option for getting international tickets, members pack including scarf, calander etc. etc.

My days of going to Ireland games are well and truly over. I payed an awful lot of money to go to most games in Croke Park, but now that the extortinate prices seem to be the status quo, I'm done with Ireland unfortunately. All my money will go to Leinster rugby. I much prefer watching Leinster play, and the value for money is infinitely better. I'm probably even more passionate and care more about about Leinster rugby than I am about the national side as a result also.

Must also add that I wont be renewing my supporters club membership since the main(read: only) reason I had it was to buy tickets.

    similar for Munster

I think this is the big disconnect that the IRFU dont seem to get

season ticket holders for the provinces get extremely good value and just cannot see why something similar cannot be done at International level

I have oft been told that season tickets or a block booking scheme like the FAI just cannot be contemplated but at the same time they will flog 10 year premium tickets and corporate boxes no problem

a valuable point, perhaps people are failing to see that croker prices were not exactly cheap

I am sure I have paid €90 or so for some games

I'd expect the 2012 games to be cheaper than the 2011...that was the case in croker

the England home game is far more of a scrum for tickets than others...certainly I think a €100 for the Italian game (based on demand) would be crazy...the €50 for samoa seems to recognise this to a point

we cant overlook the demand for the first games this November either...it may settle down...time will tell

I agree with some other posters in believing that the prices will drop down to more reasonable levels after the coming 6 nations. They know there will be a rush for the first few games and 6 nations 2011 is going to be massive with the World Cup coming up in the summer. Also a lot of people will be thinking sure I'll just go this once to see what its like (Kind of how I'm feeling actually). So all things considered I reckon every game between now and the end of 6 nations 2011 will be complete sell outs.

After that I wouldnt be surpised to see tickets down to €70 for 6 nations 2012?

You're probably right, time and time again Irish people seem happy to pay stoopid prices for things. And organisations like the IRFU will continue to rip people off when there's people out there that will happily pay 100Eu for a rugby game.

I don't blame people for forking out the cash if they have the money. The team should be supported. Personally, I just can't justify those prices. If I could, I'd go to the Springboks, and all blacks game, maybe Argentina, Samoa, all of them. It'll be just as good on TV with a few tinnies..

I'm not sure why people are expecting a drop in ticket prices. I don't think the IRFU will have much trouble finding 40,000 people willing to part with that sort of cash per match .

Can anyone tell me what the view from the little midget stand is like in Lansdowne? I think Leinster terrace season ticket holders are being put there, not delighted I have to say.

Nah, this is just the buzz created by the new stadium. I don't think they'll fill 40k seats 15 or 16 games in if tickets are still €100.

Its interesting to see that Leinster are going to play the Magners game against Munster and the HC game against Clermont Auvergne in Lansdowne, with tickets start from around €30 (plus of course ticketmaster will take an extra 10% for being the only option).

So, its nice to see that there is still a reasonably priced option to view some top class rugby in the national stadium!

The view is fine, I was there for the Lulster/Cunster game and got a good feel for the pitch. You're so close to the posts its unreal.

Only 14 rows behind the goalposts too.

I don't particularly enjoy sitting at either end at games though, and much prefer a sideline view.

Also, another benefit of sitting in the poxy stand is that you can't see it! So the stadium looks fantastic.

With this coming up in a few months do you think there could be trouble around the ground especially during derby games ie Republic of ireland vs Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland vs Scotland and Northern Ireland vs Scotland.

When was the last time the republic played the north in soccer in landsdowne

You're right. I don't think the whole "ah they'll find enough people to fill it" attitude is either accurate or right. Times have changed. They are in for a major wake up call.

This is a rugby forum, none of the above teams will play a game of rugby in the new Lansdowne Road, so its essentially off topic.

I think that they got the new stadium size spot on - it would've cost even more to build the extra 30000 seats ...& God only knows how much the tickets would then be ?€150??. Also with these recessionary times, there'll be less folk attending......

Spare a thought for those non-corporate fans who forked out €15k per seat ( ie €272.50 per match), to now see Premium seats being offered for €125 for 6N next Feb...

But, I agree, prices are exorbitant. Often wondered why so many pop stars ran shows in Ireland.

Time to vote with our feet.....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,770 ✭✭✭danthefan

I sure as hell won't be sparing any thoughts for anyone who has €15k to spend on rugby tickets, they can clearly afford it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,738 ✭✭✭thehighground

I see the Players Association has criticised the price of the tickets. Mentions that some players took a 30% wage cut recently. Obviously, the players don't want the IRFU using them as the excuse for these crazy prices in the middle of a recession.

Maybe this has come up previously a search yielded very poor results...

Does anyone else have a problem with the Purple route?? On both entering and exiting the stadium yesterday I had to walk for miles and miles to gain entry/exit. It was very frustrating as I was nearly late for the match as I really wasn't expecting it to take that long to get into the stadium when I was just in town.

So are they're short cuts or is the purple route set in stone and are there way around it?

    Cheers.

EDIT: I should mention that I was coming from and returning to town as I will be in future and indeed I'm sure many others do.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,066 ✭✭✭Sandwlch

Exiting, the best way is to go around inside the stadium (along the seat rows or around outer bar sections) rather follow the bizarre round the mountains routings the IRFU wants you to take outside the stadium.

Whether your barcode ticket lets you in at a gate section other than the one specified on it I dont know. Anyone ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,333 ✭✭✭72hundred

Thanks, I think that solves half the problem. On the way out.

    But I was just looking at the maps and there's some difference b/n purple and the rest of the routes;

    Rest and Purple.

I'm hoping to be corrected on this and a shorted route pointed out. But on Sat I left via the route in the map and took ages to get around.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 180 ✭✭Ste_D

The whole thing just stinks of someone on a power trip laying down some "rules" in the name of health and safety! Its crazy making people walk miles to get back into town.

You could walk down Beatty Ave. just after the river which would save a small bit of walking. Although I heard there were delays/crowds when going under the DART tracks at the Leinster Munster match near kick off so still might not be ideal.

Considering the price of the tickets, I have to say I was glad to see so many empty seats. It restores my faith a little in the Irish sporting public to finally see people take a stand. In this day and age, it is vary hard to justify paying those prices. Much better to go to the FAI cup final next Sunday for a tenner! :)
