    Hi guys

Have an Irish Setter, and would be willing to "pimp" him out when the time is right.

Obvioiusly I will be very careful who he goes to

I was just wondering what is the Etiquette for breeding?

Ive never done it before and have no idea whats involved

    Thanks in advance

Firstly before breeding any dog they need to be health tested for the breed and they should be excellent examples of the breed too which can only be determined by a breed specialist looking at them or showing them.

Breeding should really only be done to improve the breed and with healthy dogs so all necessary health checks relevent to the breed need to be carried out before doing anything and this is not just a quick once over by a vet.

Can i ask why you want to stud him out? as not all dogs need to be studded out because they are entire and once you stud him out he will change a bit as he will want to mate any bitch that comes into seaosn and will be more aware of bitches in heat in your area and will do whatever he can to get to them.

    Hi Andrea

    Thanks fro your reply

I was thinking about studding him out as his family has a history of champion show dogs and it would be nice to keep that line going

If it was going to change him and cause trouble for us, its not something I would like as its already like living with a teenager with him

Unless he's a champion as well, his history is more or less irrelevant for the purposes of his own breeding.
