Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Car Insurance Question

    Quick car insurance question?

How many policies can one person have? My father has two cars and has two insurance policies. A car salesman told him that he can have as many cars as he likes but only one insurance policy. Apparently it's illegal to have more than one?!

    Cheers in advance.

You can have as many as you want.

That is BS! You can have as many policies as you like but you'll only enjoy one no claims bonus when you begin a 2nd policy, you have to "earn" a 2nd NCB.
What about people with classic car insurance, etc.
My mum always had 2 policies when we were growing up to facilitate us all getting started on the road, both policies were with the same company

    Hiya,

As was just said - you will have to start a new policy with zero NCB which could result in a higher price. Some companies however will do NCB Mirroring and give you benefits of your original NCB on your first policy.

You usely have to ask about this as Mirroring is not volunteered by most insurance companies even if they do it ...

    Cheers.

When he started his second policy he had to start the policy with zero NCB and had to build it up to a full NCB. So technically speaking he has two no claims bonuses now - one with the original policy and one on the second car. Is that ok?

That is spot on. If he was to require a 3rd policy this policy would also start with zero NCB.

The car saleperson was referring to Trade insurance, which is very different to a private policy.

Also remember a car salesman is not an insurance expert - that would be an insurance broker! The only thing that would be naughty is to claim on one policy and neglect to mention your "accident" or whatever to the others.
