Were the backlogs not as much to do with the flooding of the passport office, breaking down of the machines and the increase in applications due to media coverage as anything else?

So the work to rule had nothing to do with the passport problem?? Why then did the passport office have one of its reps on the national news complaining about cuts ? The story about floods and machines breaking down was only released to calm the public when the penny finally dropped that those of us in the real world were reaching boiling point with this shambles.

Obviously Sir Antony O'Reilly thinks that passport office workers getting a few extra quid is a bigger scandal than 22 billion going into Anglo Irish Bank.

Divert peoples anger from the bankers, developers, and politicians who have recklessly ruined the country's financies and focus anger on low paid public servants.

For anyone who recognises what a disgrace the Irish Independent is:

Story is that one of the people working in the passport office left a tap on and blocked the drain but this has'nt been released offically. It's a no brainer then that the machine in balbriggan was "put out of service" on purpose also to create a backlog and send the public into a panic. All three machines are now up and running according to the department now.

Who did you hear the story from? And furthermore can you back it up? If not then its just speculation and no offence but is worthless

It’s probably a no brainier to an individual without a brain or to someone who just wants more ammo to support their Anti Public Sector opinions. If you wanted to set bias aside you could think that 2 machines to do tens of thousands of passports probably go trough a lot of wear and tear, and as a result it wouldn’t be beyond the realms of possibility for one of them to break down.

How many times have the machines broke down when Industrial Action wasn’t happening? Were they also “No Brainers”?

I think accusing people of vandalism is a very stupid thing to do, especially when you cant prove it

Machines break down every day; it’s not the job of the people in the passport office to fix them.
All three machines are now up and running according to the department now

Quick ring the Indo. “Machine that was once broke, gets fixed”

I agree with you, its not .I think it’s a joke.

But I also think it’s a joke to imply clerical officers vandalised the machine in Balbriggan and office in Molesworth Street. Do we agree on this also?

If you can prove either of the above , I will apologise and retract my statements, but until then accusing people of vandalism is a stupid thing to do unless you can prove it.

Maybe it was not in the job description of the person to turn the tap off....perfectly reasonable explanation:rolleyes: just like (NOT) answering the phones
