    hi everyone, im thinking of doing this course in september ive sent e-mails to the course head and read stuff on the u.l website, but id love to hear a students point of view about this course? i.e whats it like? what are the hours like? is it tough etc? thanks in advance!

    Hi I graduated from this course last year and am doing a masters in supply chain now, mainly because there was little hope of getting jobs the majority of the people i graduated with are either doing masters or working somewhere. Their is a new course head this year i hear and she was a good lecturer when i had her.
    The course itself is a combo of business and engineering modules so it is very broad. The flaw with with is you don't actually specialise in any particular area, which makes it difficult when going for jobs because they don't know if your a engineer or business person, hence why i decided to do the masters in supply chain and concentrate in that area.

    The business modules are handy enough if your business orientated but the engineering modules can be difficult if your not that way inclined and vice versa. The class size is small with between 10-15 people each year.
    The most i got from the course was from the work experience that i had to source myself because the co-op office are a useless bunch of s***** and when they do try to help they dont take into account that its an interdisciplinary course and try to place you in a pure engineering/manufacturing environment. I got my thesis out of the work experience and thank god for that because there was no hope of getting it anywhere else.

    If you don't know if you want to do engineering or business do this course but don't be surprised to be treated like the bastard child of the business and engineering department because neither really want you and you don't really know which you belong to.

    Overall the course is ok-ish but you don't really qualify in a specific area which can lead to confusion when going for jobs as you dont have sepcialisation in any particular area, i.e. you do a good few accounting modules but you couldn't apply for an accountancy role with Deloitte lets say. Hence why im doing a masters.

    But UL is an amazing place and you will love it no matter what course you do, so if you dont choose this course do another one there because whatever the course you will not regret going to UL

    hi, thanks for your reply. i know it was a good few years ago but can you remember what the hours were like in first year? also i did honours physics and business for the leaving cert but i did pass maths would the maths in this course be very tough? thanks again!

    From what i can remember it was 18 - 22 hours a week, the first year is basically a common course so you will be in with teachers, some engineers etc, and it basically honours level maths but you only cover 3-4 topics and its straightforward, the physics is the same, all fairly straighforward, it only gets tricky in second semester of 2nd yr and 3rd year
