Distressing case of cruelty to animals in Longford Town
ISPCA Inspector Elaine Reynolds discovered twenty seven cats
and two dogs in varying degrees of neglect in the squalor of a house in Longford Town.
Most of the cats that were found alive were in such terrible condition that they had to be euthanised, following veterinary advice.
The two dogs that were rescued, Ollie and Rosie, are currently being rehabilitated at the National Animal Centre. Ollie's coat was so badly matted with faeces that it had to be clipped well back.
Both dogs have made a good recovery and are patiently waiting for a chance of a new life with a loving family. The ISPCA is appealing to people tooffer these dogs a home by calling the National Animal Centre on 043 3325035.
Inspector Elaine Reynolds, ISPCA said: "The neglect and cruelty shown towards these animals was horrendous and the number of abandoned and neglected animals is on the rise, representing a worrying trend. We are calling on members of the public to be vigilant and report any cruelty or neglect to animals to the ISPCA National Animal Cruelty Helpline 1890 515 515. All reports of cruelty are treated in the strictest of confidence."
The ISPCA rep on Shannonside said some of them can be rehomed and they are looking for homes, so thats good.
It's just a horrible case, I'm glad to hear it was reported and vigilance is the key to stopping this from happening.
