Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Problem with speakers on Dell

    Hi all.

If anyone can help me with this I'd be much obliged.

I have a Dell Dimension 3100. I've had it about 5 years. It was getting very slow so I was told if I re-install windows it will run a lot faster. I have all the disks that came with the computer and I spent a fair bit of time researching how to do this. However I could not find a disk that allowed me to restore windows. I then realised i had an unused boxed version of Windows xp in work (was bought for a 2nd hand laptop that broke and was replaced immediately). I used this disk to re-load windows onto my home computer and low and behold it ran like a dream. However the only problem was that my speakers no longer worked. I've put up with this for a few months but would now like to get them working again.

I've googled drivers for the speakers and ended up on the dell driver site. However when I selected my model of computer I'm only getting the following two options Link I'm not sure if either of these is the correct one.

Firstly, can anyone suggest a remedy to get my speakers working. Will one of the two options above work?

Secondly, because I used a different version of windows, the tage on my computer are no longer the right ones. Is there a way to restore windows, without a disk, using the xp professional stickers on the computer?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    AL.

Not done but they worked up until I re-installed windows. I'll try with my laptop in a minute.

Running that now. Let you know how I get on.

Spent about an hour now in the Dell drivers and downloads. Seen somewhere you have to download drivers in a certain order. trying to do that but the Dell download manager is not working. Agggghhhhhhh

Registry mechanic costs money and I aint got none.

Speakers are working fine with laptop.

I presume its a problem with my drivers as I dont even have the sound icon in my system tray.

You should be looking for drivers for your sound card not your speakers. They might even show up on windows update

no you have to download free software called unknown devices from www.halfdone.com and run it will tell you name of audio driver you are missing

I'm now in the process of downloading all the drivers (in order as per Dell website). I'm on the last one but still have no volume icon in my system tray and when I go to control panel/sounds and audio devices there is no audio device set up.

I'm guessing it must be something to do with the sound card.

I'm gonna try that halfdone.com next.

    Bloody nightmare.

I've now downloaded all the recommended drivers from the dell website under Dimension 3100. Speakers not working.

I ran that halfdone program and I'm getting a list with drop down menus in what looks like notepad. What do I do now treehead?

    Wihoooooo.

Just got it working. It was the Sigmatel driver I needed to install in the audio drivers in the dell drivers and downloads.

I had only downloaded the Creative Labs application. Doh.

Thanks to all for your help.

Only took me 3 hours :D
