    Hi guys!!

Im doing some research for an essay at the moment and would be really interested in some of your opinions on this.

How far would you agree that louis xvi had a strong part in precipitating the revolution and the subsequent destruction of the monarchy?

Just interested to see some of the opinions really,

Personally, I do agree, if limited to the institution of the french monarchy, but, it also must be taken into account the form of monarchial rule into which he was accustomed for; absolute monarchy. The people had a duty of loyalty and obedience to the monarch, in reciprication, the monarchs duty was to protect the welfare of the people which Louis xvi neglected.

    Personally I think he did.

He seems like a genuine nice guy but he did not have the skills to deal with the complex situation he faced. So he was out of touch with government and was a non monarch - inefectual.

He was vain and his escape shows that -coaches with 6 horses were reserved for royalty and he insisted on 6 horses for his family escape from custody. Sorry - but was he playing with a full deck. Revolutions and regicide go together,
