Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Buying a car in the North? Avoid Donnellys at all costs!!

    Hi,
I bought a 2005 Volvo S40 1.6D in December of 2008 off Donnellys in Mallusk just outside Belfast. A one year extended warranty came with the car when I bought it and they assured me the car itself was fully checked over before I bought it. 1 month after I bought it, I brought the car back to them as I hear a strange noise coming from where the turbo is located inside the engine. They did a check and said there was nothing wrong.

As the car was under "warranty" I brought the car back to them again for a service in July with 54K miles on the clock and they discovered a problem with the play in the turbo shaft. They told me that if they can take the turbo out send it to the UK for testing to see if there's a fault with the turbo. They also said, if the turbo had failed due to normal wear and tear then I was liable for all labour and repair costs. I had to get the turbo fixed so I gave them consent to remove the turbo and send it to the UK. A week later I got word that that the turbo had failed due to normal wear and tear. They reconditioned it and a week later the reconditioned turbo put back into the car.

I was charged £423 for the work and they told me they didn't charge me for labour. What use is a 1 year warranty with a car if they don't stand over it? Also, I can't understate how difficult it was to deal with them in trying to get them to show some good will over this. I would get through to service on the phone and state my case only to be fobbed off to sales etc. They're after sales service is shocking!

This morning I've noticed issues with the turbo again and I brought it to a local Volvo dealer and it turns out that turbo return pipe has a blocked gauze. Only 8K more on the clock since the reconditioned turbo was fitted. So more work is needed to fix that. Sure enough Donnellys won't show any good will to fix this!! Avoid them at all costs!!!
