If you buy alcohol in the north it is deemed to be for personal consumption.

if you resell it that would be illegal as you are avoiding the taxes and duties on the alcohol.

but are the taxes and duties not already paid? even so, i recon even if you declared it and paid the tax on it in ireland you would still save money, its so much cheaper it would make sence, drink is way way over priced in ireland

If it's to be sold in the Republic, then the excise duty needs to be paid here. Buying in a supermarket in the North, to be sold here, would be tax evasion. The duty and excise rates are different in both countries.

firstly after the UK budget increase last week and the irish budget decreases in december, the difference in price between north & south for alcohol is quite small.

As for Duty paid in another eu country the words "excluding Tobacco, fuel & alcohol" are attached and as such the resale of these products (if bought outside the rebublic) by a business in the south is illegal unless local duty is paid.
