How do you program those social media icons?

You know the ones I'm talking about? They're at the bottom of millions of pages and they subscribe you to/bookmark the page on which they appear. How do they work? Cheers

The one I can think of off hand is AddThis. I've never actually used it, but I believe it's simple enough to implement.
