Recommendations for Italian SIM card?

Going to Italy for a week in the near future.

Anyone recommend an Italian SIM card for 1 weeks use - mainly for data, with a bit of voice? I will have access to Wi-Fi also, so it's only for use when out and about.

HAve a look here, it's a forum that specialises in talk about pre-paid SIM's
    http://www.prepaidgsm.net/forum/europe/
    and just for Italy

    http://www.prepaidgsm.net/en/italy.html.

Haven't been myself to Italy, but have a Yoigo SIM for Spain

We're not suffering, only complaining 😞

Get a 3 sim here and use it over there on 3 Italy for the same price as here

Thanks - but I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole! I checked the coverage maps, and just like in Ireland, in Italy they appear to have the worst coverage of all the operators, and they only have a 3G network - smaller cells and poor indoor signals, and no EDGE. The Italian equivalent of Boards probably has a Megathread about it, just like here!

I am looking for the Italian equivalent of Meteor - high performance network in 3G areas with fall-back to EDGE outside of 3G areas - and reasonably priced. I don't need a SIM to work in Ireland as I already have one - I just want to avoid the data roaming charges when abroad.

Thanks - great site - that's really helpful. It even explains that you need the Italian Govt equivalent of a PPS number to buy a SIM card in Italy. And it gives a website where you can create your own PPS number! Amazing. :)

This is important if you are out of town. Many visitors to Italy go to Rome, Florence etc where there is a good signal pretty much everywhere in the city.

I'd buy an Irish Three sim and go looking for an Italian one if (and only if) you prove to have problems with a signal that make it worth the effort, you are only there for a week, not a lifetime.

Data roaming charges can also be avoided with Voda preapid SIM using Live in any case.

I spent 2 weeks in Italy last year, had great reception, was more than happy with my irish 3 sim, going there on holiday again this year, one of the reason being I can use my 3 sim for data there so I can still get a bit of work done.

I wouldn't mind the mega thread, that's a problems thread not a happy camper thread.

TIM is quite a good network over there. My sister has a 3 mobile, works very well and she travels throughout Italy for her job and hasn't had problems. As one poster said, you can use it in Italy for the same price as you would have here. But you say you wouldn't go near it, WIND is the most popular network over there though. Hope you get sorted

I suggested 3 as I used it over there with no problem. Was in Rome, Venice, Sorrento and Capri and had no problem with coverage
