IOL website not available

I have http://home.iol.ie/ as my home page since way back. Now it is unavailable and "Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)" is all that appears.

Anyone know what the problem is? (still waiting for BT to get back to me).

Sorry if this is the wrong forum: mods please move if necessary.

and is news.iol.ie still alive? i can't get access to it lately. Is IOL finally dead as a doornail :)

As a consumer brand it is as dead as a dodo now that BT flogged the userbase to Voodoofone.

The webspace still works, http://www.iol.ie/~username/ pages for example and of course the Mail server and mailman.iol.ie services work too.

Does this indicate that iolfree mail is likely to stop existing anytime soon ?

Lots of BT business customers have an @iol.ie email address but iolfree was a consumer address . I would ask Vodafone whether they are taking iolfree over or whether there is any arrangement as to its continuation.

The http://www.iolfree.ie/~username/ web space still works.

    webmail.iol.ie works

    http://home.iol.ie/email.shtml

    webmail.iolfree

    http://webmail.iolfree.ie/cgi-bin/cwmail.cgi

    webmail.esatclear even

    http://webmail.esatclear.ie/cgi-bin/cwmail.cgi

If you use any of those instead of a normal email POP client I would also ask Voda whether there are any plans to wirthdraw them because you may wish to archive your mail elsewhere.

    Finally got a reply.

"The IOL homepage has been discontinued. You will need to select a new homepage."

It would have been nice to have had advance warning but that is too much to ask.

Just hope they don't kill off my nice very old and easy to remember @iol.ie address :)

May I ask what you might have done with the advance warning? In fairness there was nothing special about it, and even the idea of having a homepage as a website seems to be being replaced with browser specific start pages.

Does this mean I am likely to lose me
    esatclear
    and
    iol
    email addresses then?
Though it has been a long time since i could send email via esatclear.. I can recieve thee but not send.
Maybe I missed out of a change of settings or something along the way?
    Settings i use are
    pop.esatclear.ie
    mail.esatclear.ie

    and
    pop.iol.ie
    mail.iol.ie

"There are currently no plans in place for the IOL and Oceanfree email services being discontinued."
    Message from BT

Unfortunately, they also say that IOL and Oceanfree websites will be deleted shortly which means that my website will be lost. Any ideas as to where a small, basic website can be hosted for free?
Like most BT customers I was transferred to Voodoofone who do not offer any hosting services.

Does anyone know how to obtain the ftp host name for an old esatclear website

Decent hosting is from €20 a year. Domain name €7. ex VAT
    http://hosting.digiweb.ie/
    Boards.ie, and www.techtir.ie use digiweb

Then you will never have to change email address again.

    IOL still there today

Free hosting is prone to adverts, disappearing, slow...

paid hosting gives you so much more. Install your own Drupal, wordpress, have your own Webmail and pop mailboxes etc with your own custom domain name.
