    Kick Off 16:00

    Possible Starting XIs

Liverpool: Riena – Insua, Carragher, Agger, Johnson – Maxi, Aquilani, Mascherano, Kuyt – Torres, Gerrard

    4-2-3-1

Sunderland: Gordon - Da Silva, Ferdinand, Turner, Hutton – Richardson, Cana, Cattermole, Malbranque – Campbell, Bent

    4-4-2

    Match Odds

    Liverpool – 2/7
    Draw – 4/1
    Sunderland – 10/1

Looks like Aquilani will start today. I hope he does, as we have won all five of the league games that he has started.

I'm gonna say a Liverpool win, possibly 3-1 or so. With Torres we are a different animal and I expect him to get at least 1 and probably Bent to reply for Sunderland

They're in good form but maybe this is a game too far...hopefully anyway

Liverpool absolutely have to win this.

Draw would be nice I have to say might put a bet on at 4-1 or maybe bent to score anytime

Should be a good game, and a challenge for Liverpool.

After going through a terrible terrible period stretching back to November, much of the home fixtures i had to witness Sunderland seem to have got their act together again.

They have played some great football lately, but they have also played some terrible stuff at times in those games. If they do this today and Liverpool play well it should be a Liverpool win.

I'll add in the fact that Jones (who i don't like as a player) but who has been instrumental in Sunderlands form of late, and more so Mensah being out further sides me with a Liverpool win.

I'll go 3-1 to Liverpool. Bent to score for Sunderland.

Should be a good game. On the form Guide Sunderland should win it, Torres playing well will be a factor if liverpool are to win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,220 ✭✭✭✭Lex Luthor

usually the match odds give a good indication of the result. I'm going for a Liverpool win with a hat-trick for Torres and Gerrard to get one from the pen.

Sunderland are decent enough @10/1 so a few pennies on that. Also some on Bent anytime.

Going by the form guide Liverpool should win.

Liverpool have won their last seven games at Anfield in all comps.

Sunderland have lost four and drawn three of their last seven away games, conceding seventeen goals and scoring only seven for those away games..

Mind you, some of the results that Liverpool have had this season give good reason for people to expect upsets.

True but its a bit sad that Utds fans for whom Liverpool poses absolutely no threat (sadly) still misrepresent facts to make things look worse than they already are.

He may have been looking at a combined home and away form which paints a different picture for both clubs.

I really really really want Aquilani to start. Its madness if he does not. We have to win this. We are at home and against Sunderland - we have to attack from the start. We do not need Lucas and Masch on the pitch.

    I'd like to see:

    Reina

    Johnson
    Carra
    Agger
    Insua

    Masch----Aquilani

    Yossi
    Gerrard
    Babel

    Torres

    I think we will see:

    Reina

    Johnson
    Carra
    Agger
    Insua

    Masch----Lucas

    Kuyt
    Gerrard
    Maxi

    Torres

Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Agger, Insua, Babel, Mascherano, Gerrard, Rodriguez, Kuyt, Torres.

    4-4-2

Sunderland to win both halfs @ 100/1 :D

    Aquilani on the bench AGAIN!

Am I right in that lucas isnt starting either? Kuyt Babel and Maxi all starting....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,910 ✭✭✭✭whatawaster

what the hell does Aquilani need to do to get a start? Ahead of Gerrard, preferably.
Also, it looks like bye bye Yossi in the summer. 4 games in a row on the bench

I'm guessing Sky putting Kuyt in centre mid is completely off the mark?

    Would it not be:

    Babel---Masch---Gerrard---Rodriguez
    Kuyt
    Torres

How Maxi keeps starting ahead of Yossi is beyond me.

Benitez really likes his 4-2-3-1 though.

    Yep, would expect

    Masch
    Gerrard
    Babel
    Kuyt
    Maxi

Although Maybe Rafa is going to give either Kuyt or Babel a run up front with Torres.

I would add Gerrard, Kuyt and Babel to that.

In fairness to Babel, the few starts he has had this season he has done ok in, especially of late.

Sunderland to win both halfs @ 100/1 :D

Who's that with? Only 28/1 on Betfair.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,560 ✭✭✭✭Kess73

I'm happy to see Babel back in the team today, but leaving Aquilani out yet again is baffling as it is not as though Rafa keeps him for the European games.

Yossi seems out of favour at present as well.

I agree, i've wanted Babel to start almost every game for the past couple of months. But i think Yossi became such a vital attacking threat for us over the last two seasons, but seems to have been cast aside suddenly, and i don't know why.

    Masch
    Aquilani

    Babel
    Gerrard
    Yossi-

    Torres

Would be our best variant of 4231 in my opinion.

How does Maxi get start after start after start ? Doesnt make sense. Meanwhile, Aquilani cant buy a start it seems, regardless of how well he performs.

Sunderland: Gordon, Bardsley, Turner, Cana, Ferdinand, Campbell, Henderson, Cattermole, Richardson, Malbranque, Bent.
Subs: Carson, Zenden, Jones, Da Silva, Kilgallon, Mwaruwari, Liddle.

Because he's played well for 1 and a half games out of about 10 it seems.

I've nothing against Maxi, he could be a useful squad player next season, but he's been poor barring those games - blackburn and pompey.

It will be a tight enough game with Liverpool dominating possesion and Sunderland hitting us on the break. Should be 2-1 or 2-0. Yossi should start a head of Maxi and possibly Aquilani in midfield for Kuyt. You can make excuses for Aquilani not starting the last game but at home against Sunderland I just can't fathom why he is not starting.
