True and some tourists dont buy much in pubs either

Massive groups of elderly American tourists could come in when they hear theres a trad session on and maybe less half of them will buy a drink

Could you imagine the scene if a massive group of Irish ppl went into a pub and sat nursing a few drinks?.... Oh hang on a sec... that was just a dream I had:p

    They do, they're called students:D:D

Also, I've a nephew, who wouldn't spend Christmas, who regularly goes out and doesn't spend a penny.

Highly recommend the first self service bar in Ireland, Jarrz on John Street.

Have been in a few times since they opened.

The only thing I'd comment on is the decor I find it a bit community centre or sports club vibe maybe just the lighting is too strong

    Great selection of drinks

Although I'd probably advise them to open a little earlier in the day than four ó clock seen as it is a bit of a novelty thing

Fairly handy and also the thing I like is that you can pour as much or little as you like, it's also great if you have half a pint for example you can top it up a little for say a euro which gives you a good top up!

    Great value too imo!
The card thing is fairly deadly and it's fun to pour your own too, with staff on hand incase you need help

Anyone else any reviews on it?

Up visiting today and a taxi man was saying Eta Mordaunts has been sold for development. Sad if it is because it was always a place full of characters.

Was actually a great night last night.
If they do it right and do it again every one or even two months I can see it becoming Very popular.
TBF it was mostly people my parents age(I'm 31 now) but there were ppl I knew there and also the tunes were class. Reminded me of the Forum / Axis Monday back in the day

Yeah was a brilliant night, huge crowd there as well so loads raised for charity. Music was great and good heads there as well.

You would think that somewhere that was struggling to get a few people in the door would start to put on nights like this regularly as there seems to be a demand for it!

The only real nightclub now for older people is the Reg but I think there is room for another place to fill what has been left behind by the likes of the Roxy and the Forum.

Any ideas where would be a suitable venue?

Dunno if there is any suitable venues left in Waterford. The Roxy and Flow Motion were unique nights because of the venues themselves. The music was pretty on trend too particularly Flow. They always pulled a great crowd. The Forum was good later on too. Guess its different these days as the way people socialise has changed dramatically. Back then [mid 90's] everyone went to a club after the pub. Me personally it would have been two from three of: Rebel Yell @ Roxy Thursday nite, Flow Motion @ back of Egan's Friday & The Roxy Saturday. There was a huge choice in town back then. As well as the aforementioned there was Club LA, Preachers, Breens, Reg and The Metroland. All ages & tastes catered for. Suppose its a sign of the times: smoking ban, cheap booze in Off Licences, pubs closing and the change in Irelands drinking culture in the intervening two decades. But they were great times. Perhaps the last golden age for nightlife not only in Waterford but Ireland itself. Who knows it might renew itself in time but somehow I doubt it.

I would think that somewhere like the upstairs in Revolution would work if you changed the layout a bit and got a decent crowd in there after the pubs.

The key was always to have a band on about 10:30 to get a few people in the door and then they stay on for the tunes after it.
Same really as what they did in the reunion night at the weekend.

I’ve been to them all apart from the Fitzwilton. Never really took to that hotel for some reason.
The Tower is way out in front for the Xmas nights imo. Probably well booked up by now I’d imagine.

Never hear good reviews regarding anything to do with fitzwilton hotel. I'd imagine tower would be the best bet. I was at dooleys Hotel Christmas night a couple of years ago and it was a bit meh, the food wasn't great.

Now if the granville did a Christmas party I'm sure that would be fantastic!

Food has come on in leaps and bounds in Dooleys. We had a Christening there recently and everyone was saying how nice the food was and there were a lot of fussy eaters!!

The new Katy Barrys is a very nice cosy spot

Really hope its goes well for the new management. Waterford doesn't have enough of these kind of places in the city centre vicinity

Tom Maher must be spinning in his grave!!no men allowed in there next

Good crowd in there last night. The lads taking it over have done good things with the vintage parlour and tea rooms so I'd say Tom Mahers is in good hands.

Went to Ballyduff the other day and played music bingo, any pubs around that do it regularly? Long shot I know

Went out in Waterford last week. Manor Street is crazy. Lads were jumping up on the bonnets of taxis looking for claims, kicking taxis, saw another lad with a bloodied face walking down. Looked like sheer lawlessness. Awful.

Not great to be honest. Never really took off from the location they're in, I've been there on weekend nights and it's been empty most of the time.
