Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hardly a massive coup in fairness - they really wanted Hiddink but not to be - Sven is like a poor second

Wouldn't be the first time. Huh-ho.

In all seriousness I expect this to end badly.

You do know the difference between 'manager' and 'director of football' i take it?

Erickson only joined notts county because the consortium who took them over made promises (that they couldnt keep), not to mention a huge tax bill they tried to hide, aswel as having alterior motives that they wanted erickson in another capacity in korean football or something.

He also waived money he was owed so that the new owners could take over being described as an absolute gentleman. Look at his managerial record, its better than 90% of the premier league bosses.

What does a manager who takes over a team who has already qualified, just before a tournament, actually do?

    Manage them during the tournament?

    .
Whether he was kit man or director of football or manager is irrelevant. Going from an association with a League 2 club to a strong international side would normally be viewed as a step upwards IMO

It isnt irrelevant if you adhere to the notion/vision why erickson signed on the dotted line......ie, 'we want to bring the oldest club in english football back to greatness again'. It was a romantic vision from a consortium who couldnt deliver and its debateable whether they ever wanted to.

Imo, alot of african teams struggle because the are very poor tactically, some games resemble schoolyard matches, erickson has the know how to bring the ivory coast to a different level for this tournament. People forget he took over england when they were around 20th or something in world rankings, he left them in the top 5 and only lost 3 games i think in 5/6 years. Some jobs are a poisoned chalice, doesnt matter what results you get, the ivory coast can only benefit from him and his advice.

What specific areas of the Ivory Coast's tactical approach do you feel are poor and could benefit from Eriksson's input?

I was basing this point on the fact that the majority of football played by the ivory coast is against other african teams who are poor tactically, and as a result have a couple of players who can expose this. The ivory coast national team wont have a wealth of experience playing other big national sides in a big tournament, his experience here could prove invaluable to them. Hypothetically, lets say they had a match against italy, a very strong tactical team, i believe erickson has the knowledge and ideas on how to better deploy a team in this scenario seeing as he has won the italian league.

On paper they have a nice team with drogba, kalou, toure, eboue etc, its a whole different scenario getting a full team to mesh well together and erickson has proved this ability with man city in his short spell there. In less than a year he had richard dunne playing football instead of hoofball and stephen ireland playing his best to date, indeed its arguable that he had city playing better football (double against united in the league) than they are playing today even with their 'gazzilions' spent since then. The chairman lost the plot and the team collapsed at the back end of the season but it just goes to show what he can do in a short space of time which is what he has with the ivory coast.

Unless Erikssonn unearths a new Keeper Ivory Coast will be Out pre-QF which is not terrible but given they will have major support and boast a very talented squad which could do damage at this stage in their careers it would be a shame to see them struggle.

Take the credit if they do well..say they weren't there long if they don't...
    win / win I'd say!
