Match Traffic on Friday - How to Avoid?

Hi,

I need to get to Cork city on Friday night. I will be travelling from Galway city. I will not get out of work until at least 5 Friday evening. Any suggestions on the route I should take to get to Cork city without hitting too much match traffic? I do not want to be travelling for 4 hours, if possible. I was thinking of aiming to hit Limerick around 8 and hope the roads might be OK at that time (i.e. during the match).

You should have no problem at that time as the match will have started.When you hit the Coonagh/Tesco roundabout go right along the Condell rd over Shannon bridge,go right again and out the dock rd following the Cork signs.Some roadworks on the dock rd so take it easy.

There should be no issues with traffic other than the usually Friday evening traffic. Bear in mind on the Dock road the traffic lights will likely be flashing amber so you should sail through.

Most traffic will be confined from the Ennis road towards the stadium and you will be taking the Condell road away from this.

could even try this way, works for me when im coming from the ennis rd when I need to get to the n69 via patrickswell so it should work for you for cork

Im trying to get from castletroy to galway today at 5. Any idea what the best way is? im thinking of coming in the ballysimon road and then taking either sarsfield bridge or condell road.

5 should be fine. Just take the normal routes through the city.

Why not come via O'Brien's Bridge?

I think the Park and Ride from Kilmurry is starting about 4/4:30 - that's what they said last week when we were heading out to the Glasgow game.

Ya i considered that, but if i do that i miss out on most of the motorway so might end up taking longer.....although i do hate sitting in traffic...

Dont have to, you could travel via O'Brien,s bridge, Ardnacrusha, Meelick and back onto the dual carriageway near Shiels garage/Two mile Inn. This part of the journey should take you about 30 mins max, judge for yourself, would it take you more than 30 mins coming in directly?

That's the way I would have gone too but the OP didnt want to miss out on the motorway.
